Recap / The Omnitrix Hero S 1 E 11 Bloodsuckers

Go To

While cleaning up the park, Flash and the Rainbooms ignore the warning of the old groundskeeper and remove a plug from the lake. This unleashes a frog-like monster that has a taste for Flash's blood, and chases him all over town to drain him of it all so it can reproduce and create an army.

  • Continuity Nod: When some citizens see Firefly being chased by two flying frog creatures, they wonder if the "Mad Scientist" had come back, referring to Animac and his hybrids from "Animal Harm".
  • Crusty Caretaker: Canterlot's park has a groundskeeper that tries to warn everyone not to remove the plug from the lake, or they'll release the monster sealed by it.
  • Forceful Kiss: In order to get Flash to clear his mind so the frogs can't find him, Trixie surprises him by grabbing his head and pulling him towards her until the two are kissing.
  • Innocuously Important Episode:
    • Spike briefly sees the Omnitrix on Flash's wrist. This ends up being a major point to the plot by the Season Finale.
    • The Rainbooms learn that Flash and Trixie are not actually dating like they thought. This is a minor moment overall compared to everything else, but it also means there won't be any confusion when Flash starts dating again in Season 2.
  • Internal Reveal: The Rainbooms learn that Flash and Trixie aren't actually dating like they assumed.
  • I Warned You: The groundskeeper says how he warned them what would happen if they removed the plug, but they were all too overconfident to listen to him
  • Kill It with Water: The frog monsters melt into goop when they come in contact with water.
  • Lifesaving Misfortune: Flash tries to go Volt-Edge to fight the frogs, but the Omnitrix gives him Molestache instead. He and Trixie quickly realize this was a good thing when they see the frogs all grow mustaches the same as Molestache, realizing they can copy the powers of Flash's aliens when he transforms.
  • Logical Weakness: The frogs can read Flash's mind due to having a link to his blood and adapt the powers of the aliens Flash uses due to them having the same blood as him. However, when Flash turns into Bushwhacker, a plant alien that has no blood they can't adapt his powers or read his mind.
  • Madness Mantra: Fluttershy can understand the frog creatures with her magic, and according to her they all keep saying "Blood, blood, give us blood. Every drop, gives us life."
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
    • Flash's team and the Rainbooms cause the problem of the chapter by not listening to the groundskeeper's warning about the seal, believing even if the monster he tells them about is real they can handle it. This results in Flash getting chased all over town by monster frogs. Flash even admits he deserved it for not listening to the old man.
    • When trying to help Flash escape the frogs, Trixie takes him to the junkyard, where the frogs start eating the metal so they can multiply. It is subverted when it is revealed the frogs can't eat rusted metal, then Double Subverted when the frogs just eat a pile of non-rusted metal.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Flash says this to the Rainbooms when they see him and Trixie kissing in the middle of the park.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: The frogs are essentially vampires, with their powers coming from blood and chasing Flash to drain him of his blood. Flash even refers to them as "vampire frogs" at one point.
  • Post-Kiss Catatonia: Trixie invokes this. She realizes that the frogs have a partial psychic connection to Flash, so if he stops thinking they won't be able to find him. Flash starts saying how he can't just turn off his mind on demand, until Trixie surprises him by pulling him into a kiss, shocking him enough to get him to stop thinking and the frogs to move away for awhile, until Flash starts thinking again.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Flash and Trixie both burst into laughter when they realize the Rainbooms thought they were dating and give each other some good-natured grilling at the thought.
Trixie: You think we're dating? That's hilarious. Like I'd be caught dead dating this goofball.
Flash: Oh like you're any better.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Flash's mother calls up to him while he's in his room and asks if he is coming down for breakfast. But after he starts running away from the frog creatures he jumps out of his room via the window to run away, and his mom is never brought up again, with her apparently not questioning where Flash could be.
