Go To

It's the office's Halloween party and Robert California is in attendance with his son. Andy trusts Erin to organize it, but the party she throws turns out to be too childish for everyone's taste. Jim and Pam argue about superstitions.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Eskimos Aren't Real: Kevin, who is afraid of mummies, learns they are real in this episode.
  • Exact Words: After Meredith reveals she attended Prince William and Kate's wedding personally:
Andy: I thought you were at your sister's funeral.
Meredith: What I said was, "My sister's funeral is this weekend." Didn't say I'd be there.
  • Halloween Episode: The episode takes place during the day of DM's Halloween party.
  • I Know What You Fear: During the episode, Robert California asks or deduces everyone's biggest fear. At the end of the episode, he combines all of them into one story he tells everyone.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: After Robert's son Bert recognizes Dwight's Kerrigan costume that everyone else mocked, they spend the rest of the night playing Star Craft. In the Stinger, Dwight gets Bert to prank Toby by pretending to fire him, claiming the CEO's son has the authority to do so, all while Dwight watches on in delight.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Andy deems Erin's Halloween party too childish and later asks Erin to talk at the end of the day. Worrying that he has some personal issue with her over the childish party, she takes things too far in an effort to make it more "adult" by first playing one of Gabe's creepy movies and then pulling out a sex-themed card game. After Robert pulls the two of them into the office, Andy finally clarifies that he does not have any issues with Erin, he merely wanted to tell her about his new relationship and ensure nothing was weird between them.
  • The Chessmaster: After spending the night learning everyone's fears, Robert California spins a tale that incorporates them all, causing the now paranoid couples in the office to resolve their conflicts.
  • Series Continuity Error: In this episode, Meredith says Jim freaks her out. In other episodes, she is shown to be flirty with him.
