Tropes

  • All for Nothing: All of the team's efforts to promote the Sabre Store were for naught in the end, as Robert reveals he had always disagreed with the store idea and planned to sandbag it at the executive meeting regardless of the project's success.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: In spite of how tenuous his relationship with Dwight is, Jim realizes that he truly doesn't want Dwight to be fired and goes so far as to tackle him to keep him from taking the fall for the store. When Dwight witnesses Todd being fired and realizes Jim was telling the truth, he silently extends a hand to get him up off the floor and they leave the building together.
  • Cassandra Truth: Jim's attempts to alert Dwight that Robert is going to tank the store and fire him are all in vain, as Dwight just dismisses it as another one of Jim's pranks.
  • Fall Guy: When Jim prevents Dwight from attending the Sabre meeting, Todd steps in to take his place as VP of the Sabre Store. Thus, Robert ends up firing him instead of Dwight.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard:
    • Todd decides to take advantage of Dwight's absence and claim the VP spot for himself. Unbeknownst to him, this puts him in the perfect position to take the fall for the store's failure, and he ends up getting fired in Dwight's place.
    • After Darryl and Toby do a showtune for Kevin in exchange for his cookie purchases, he has the chance to make a decision but instead decides to keep abusing their willingness to do anything for him. However, when he demands to ride one of them like a pony, they realize they still want their dignity and drop out, leaving Kevin completely cookie-less.
  • No Longer with Us: Andy literally uses this to communicate with the office that Dwight is staying in Florida, which causes them to panic thinking he's dead.
Andy: How could I have been more clear? He had a massive stroke *Angela gets wide-eyed* of good fortune and he's now in a better place!
  • Put on a Bus to Hell: Todd, for good this time. When he takes the VP position for himself, Robert fires him from the company completely.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Cathy is not seen with the rest of the group when they return to Scranton from Florida, and never appears in the series again. Presumably, either her temp job expired or Robert decided to fire her as well.
  • Wimp Fight: The scuffle between Dwight and Jim consist of a few awkward tackles and clinches plus Jim getting grossed out because Dwight started licking his hand.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: When Jim tackles Dwight, Dwight begins crying in pain and saying his appendix wound still hasn't healed. Jim stops and apologizes profusely... only for Dwight to charge him while he's off-guard.
