Tropes

  • Blatant Lies: When Jim confronts Cathy about her attempts at seducing him, she gets very irritated and defensive. Nobody buys it.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Dwight is not above flirting with Nellie and agreeing to a sexual encounter to butter her up for the VP job, however he scratches up the room card he gives to her because he strongly disavows sleeping his way to the top.
  • Mistaken for Cheating: Val's boyfriend Brandon thinks that she's sleeping with Darryl behind his back because of the seemingly flirtatious texts he's been sending her. While it is true that Darryl is attracted to Val, he hadn't actually been making any moves on her yet.
  • Not What It Looks Like: When Stanley comes to Jim's room for beer and sees Cathy, he tells Jim "It only gets easier." Jim tries to tell him there's nothing going on, to no avail.
  • Rule of Three: The Cold Open features, in succession: Pam/Angela complaining about Oscar, Pam/Oscar complaining about Angela, and Angela/Oscar complaining about Pam. Then Andy walks in and says something that offends them and it cuts to all three of them complaining about him.
  • Seduction-Proof Marriage: Despite Cathy's best efforts, Jim refuses to be tempted by her. In fact, he's clearly uncomfortable with her blatant seduction tactics and even gets Dwight to de-fumigate their room for bed bugs in a desperate attempt to get away from her. A Deleted Scene even has Jim on the phone with Pam and having explained the situation, and she doesn't seem concerned or worried about what he's going to do.
  • Shipper on Deck: Pam actually encourages Darryl to continue going after Val despite her having a boyfriend, saying that if Jim hadn't been that forward with her they wouldn't have ended up together.
