Recap / The Office USS 7 E 8 Viewing Party

Go To

When Gabe hosts a Glee viewing party and invites everyone, two of his employees don't fill at ease: Michael feels like Gabe usurped his role as the cool boss, and Andy is still jealous over losing Erin to him. Meanwhile, Jim and Pam discover how good Dwight is with children.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Berserk Button: Do not imply you're the better boss to Michael Scott.
  • Blatant Lies: Pam when saying she and Dwight are good friends when trying to make him babysit Cece.
  • Call-Back: Michael lists all his bosses who have been sacked/became insane/deceased, namely David, Charles, Jan and Ed Truck while speaking about his problem with authority. He doesn't mention Ryan who was arrested and then demoted, because of his one-sided adulation towards him.
  • The Gadfly: Dwight is clearly having fun getting back at Jim for his pranks just so that he can pacify Cece.
  • Global Ignorance: Gabe mentions having to study in Japan and liking the culture - but his house is clearly decorated with Chinese decorations.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Michael clearly doesn't like Gabe being more liked than himself.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: Michael threatens Gabe this with regards to Erin.
  • Karma Houdini: Nobody except for Erin finds out that Michael cut off the power.
  • Oh, Crap!: Jim and Pam when Dwight informs him it's another day for Angela's legal obligation.
  • Parental Substitute: Michael is revealed this to be this to Erin. It's probably why she easily forgives him.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Andy drinks five powdered seahorses with beer just to get an edge over Gabe. He ends up having food poisoning. Though it's implied Ryan and Darryl had to do something with it.
    • Michael doesn't hesitate cutting the power and pissing off his employees (and Gabe who is his superior) just so that he'd be more liked.
  • Walk and Talk: Michael parodies this for fun, including pretending to talk to Andy and Stanley for two seconds each about made-up appointments. Presumably, the camerapeople were in on it.
