Recap / The Office USS 6 E 15 Sabre

Go To

Now that Dunder-Mifflin has been bought out by Sabre, the office has to acclimate to the new policies of the merger. Meanwhile, Jim and Pam interview at a prestigious daycare, and Andy and Erin try to come up with a new song for the merger.

Tropes:

  • Both Sides Have a Point: While Michael isn't wrong saying that up-heaving all the things Dunder-Mifflin employees took for granted is a bad idea, Jo Bennett is also right when she says all the things they took for granted is also part of the reason the company went under.
  • Cringe Comedy: Andy and Erin try to welcome Gabe with their first song (a parody of "Party in the USA"), but the whole thing hinges on them having thought that the company name was pronounced "Sa-bray" instead of "Say-ber".
  • Everyone Has Standards: While Michael has had some pretty dumb moments in the past, he still thinks that David Wallace's "Suck-It" is a bad idea.
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: Wallace's fall from CFO to someone desperate for new ideas unnerves even Michael.
  • Oh, Crap!: Michael when Jo Bennett gives her ultimatum in nice words.
    • Jim and Pam when the manager of the daycare rejects their application.
    • In the Cold Open, when Dwight realizes that the package was only to be opened by Gabe, and when Michael forgot his phone inside it.
  • Pun: Jim observes in a talking head that if they can't get their baby into the daycare, there's always the army—the infantry.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: The manager of the daycare gives a short but succinct one to Jim and Pam for being arrogant and overbearing.
  • Servile Snarker: Dwight doesn't hesitate to lay in that Michael rashly opened the box without consulting the instructions.
  • Swapped Roles: Michael suddenly finds himself the sane one in his interactions with David Wallace, who himself is now the one desperate for company and attention, having been left driftless after losing his job.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Pam reacts in shock and horror as Michael asks Erin to throw a pair of scissors for him to catch — and she does. Twice.
