Go To

Tropes

  • Achievements in Ignorance: Michael manages to call Stanley's bluff of leaving to another branch purely by not realizing it's a bluff at all and letting him do it.
  • The Bus Came Back: We find out that Karen is now managing the Utica branch, after Jim dumped her at the end of the third season.
Turns out it's a pretty easy gig when your boss isn't an idiot and your boyfriend's not in love with someone else.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Michael is okay with pranking Utica as long as the prank doesn't hurt anyone. Dwight doesn't care.
Michael: We brought uniforms from the warehouse. I brought Silly String. Dwight brought gasoline and chunks of rubber to make stink bombs.
    Dwight: Or real bombs.
Michael: No, no, not real bombs.
  • Exclusive Clique Clubhouse: The Finer Things Club with Oscar, Toby, and Pam suffers for a lack of this to comic effect.
  • Eye Scream: Dwight really, really wants to gouge out someone's eyes.
  • Get Out!: While trying to poach Utica's best salesman, Michael tells Pam to get out after she sniggers at the salesman mentioning that Michael ran over Meredith.
  • Have I Mentioned I Am Gay?: Oscar notes that, besides having sex with men, the Finer Things Club is the gayest thing he does.
  • Kill It with Fire / If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: Dwight says he will burn Utica to the ground. Then Michael says if Karen hurts Stanley...they will burn Utica to the ground.
  • Only Sane Man: Jim fills this role while trying to keep Michael and Dwight from doing something really stupid. It backfires.
  • Potty Failure: After Michael and Dwight fall down the stairs, Michael mentions he wet his pants.
    • Almost happens to Dwight too, whilst pinned between the giant copier and the wall with Michael: "I'm losing control of my bladder!"
  • The Reveal: Stanley says he wishes to stay in Scranton, but then reveals in an interview that he wasn't trying to leave at all. He was just trying to leverage a raise, and he's completely dumbfounded as to how Michael called his bluff.
  • Ring-Ring-CRUNCH!: Jim tries to warn Karen and Dwight throws his phone out the window. Sensibly, Michael convinces the other two to go back for it
  • Shout-Out: To Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Michael sets up a sleeping dummy in his office. Stanley asks how Michael sleeping is any better than Michael leaving the office.
  • Terminally Exclusive Club: The B-plot involves the Finer Things Club, a club about art and culture whose membership is entirely Pam, Oscar, and Toby. Jim wants to join to hang out with Pam, and Andy wants to join precisely because it's exclusive.
