Tropes

  • Borrowed Catchphrase: During a Confession Cam when Jan talks about whether to maintain her relationship with Michael Scott.
Jan: "Why is this so hard"? That's What She Said. Oh, God, what am I saying?
  • Call-Back: Pam confesses to Roy that she and Jim kissed during "Casino Night."
  • Dramatic Irony: Roy tells Pam, "You can't hide anything from me". The audience is well aware that she can and has been.
  • Drinking Game: The gang plays a drinking game in the pub.
  • Failure Is the Only Option: Toby spends the whole evening trying to win a duck for Pam, missing out an opportunity to hang out with her. Then she hands the duck back to him to give to his daughter, preventing him from insisting she keep it.
  • Foreshadowing: Jan lists the only downside of dating Michael as "collapsing in on herself like a dying star."
  • Grew a Spine: Pam decides to become more open, honest, and assertive in her relationship with Roy and with people in general. When the bartender gives her the wrong beer, she asserts herself to get the right one. Unfortunately, it backfires when she tells him that Jim kissed her.
  • Idiot Houdini: A literal example, when Michael loses his key and can't get himself out of his straitjacket.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: David Wallace shares a 20-year-old single malt scotch that was a gift from Lee Iacocca.note  Michael gives a toast "to Mr. Iacocca and his failed experiment, the DeLorean." Michael also asks for Splenda, while drinking a priceless whisky.
  • Metaphorgotten: Michael says "early worm gets the...worm."
  • Never My Fault: Roy decides he will kill Jim after he and his brother lose their money for jet skis bribing a bar to not tell the cops about them trashing it. While it's true Jim and Pam kissed, Roy's destructive outburst was entirely his own doing.
    • While he blames Jim for disrupting their relationship, the truth is he had not been treating Pam very well prior to their first break up, which was almost certainly a factor in her reciprocating Jim's feelings.
  • Noodle Incident: Kevin refuses to talk about Stacy leaving him.
  • That's What She Said: A rare example of Jan making the joke.
  • Wham Line: Roy at the end after he finds out Jim kissed Pam.
    I'm gonna kill Jim Halpert.
