  • Artistic License – Biology: In a deleted scene, Ryan prints off a number of facts about skin cancer. One of which is that skin is the largest organ in the body, but Michael incorrectly states that the heart is bigger.
  • Big Eater: Someone, probably Dwight, ate three feet of baloney and ketchup sub.
Dwight: Hell yeah, and save room for ice cream cake!
  • Birthday Episode: Of course.
  • Blatant Lies: Michael shows off the box of donuts that "someone" (ie himself) bought for his birthday.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Kevin gets the results back from his skin cancer exam and proudly tells everyone that he's tested "negative". Everyone is relieved... except Michael, who thinks that negative means he does have cancer and shows genuine sorrow to him for the first time.
  • 419 Scam: Michael is mentioned to have fallen for the classic Nigerian prince scam.
  • Humiliation Conga: Michael's list of terrible birthdays.
  • Jerkass: Michael to Toby, when Toby tells him he forgot it's Michael's birthday.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Michael acts like a brat over everyone being more concerned over Kevin's cancer test, but when he mistakenly thinks Kevin's test results indicate he does have cancer Michael breaks down and hugs him while promising that he's going to beat it.
  • Mistaken for Prostitute: Michael expects a "strippergram" on his birthday, and then a woman comes to deliver a package. It takes a while to convince him she is an actual delivery person.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Kevin gets a call indicating that his test results came back negative. While everyone is relieved, Michael takes this to mean that he does have cancer.
  • Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure: Michael thinks his James Dean painting is actually Luke Perry.
  • Significant Birth Date: Michael thinks it's worth mentioning that he shares a birthday with Eva Longoria (which means his birthday is March 15).
  • Skewed Priorities: The saddest funeral Kelly ever saw was Princess Diana's. Or maybe her sister's.
  • Stunned Silence: After witnessing Dwight asking Angela about their later meeting to "discuss finances", only to have her warn him to not "expect any cookie", we cut to Ryan on Confession Cam, but he says nothing. He just has a flabbergasted, wide-eyed "What the hell did I just watch?" expression.
  • Vader Breath: Pam gets on the loudspeaker and imitates Darth Vader.
  • Your Favorite: Kevin's favourite food is Cup o'Noodles, and M&Ms, favourite movie is American Pie 2, and favourite number is 69.
