  • Downer Ending: After Caleb's funeral, Kirsten's alcoholism gets bad enough that Sandy finally holds an intervention to convince her to go to rehab. Kirsten initially resists, but eventually agrees after Seth begs her to. Trey's antics at the Bait Shop cause a drug deal to go awry and almost results in people getting killed, which prompts Ryan to tell Trey to leave Newport and never come back. The incident at the Bait Shop causes Marissa's PTSD to resurface, and she finally confesses to Summer that Trey attempted to rape her. Summer then tells Seth, who then tells Ryan, which serves as the final straw and causes Ryan to confront his brother. Ryan and Trey get into a huge fight at his apartment with Marissa arriving at the scene. Just as Trey is about to smash his brother's head in with a phone, Marissa grabs Trey's gun and shoots him, causing Trey to collapse. The episode ends with Seth and Summer arriving on scene, and Trey's fate left uncertain.
  • In the Back: To stop Trey from strangling Ryan to death, Marissa grabs Trey's gun and shoots him in the back.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: After finding out what he did to Marissa, Ryan goes to Trey's apartment and attacks him, through Trey quickly gains the upper hand and nearly kills him.
  • Oh, Crap!: Marissa, when Seth tells her that Ryan knows about Trey's "incident" with her, knowing he's going to put his life at risk for a showdown.
  • Rage Breaking Point: After dealing with his brother's shit throughout the series, Ryan tries to end him once and for all after learning that he tried to rape Marissa.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance: After Marissa shoots Trey In the Back, the soundtrack cuts out. Cue Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek".
  • Troubled Fetal Position: Marissa is reduced to whimpering in the corner after doing what she did to save Ryan.
  • You Wouldn't Shoot Me: When Trey points at a gun at a livid Ryan to protect himself, Ryan mocks him for it.
Ryan: What are you gonna do? Shoot me? Is that how this ends?
Trey: No, how this ends is up to you.
