Film: Event Horizon
Tagline: Nostalgiaween begins with a cult classic that no one understands why it’s a cult classic.
This review provides examples of:
- Actor Allusion: Invoked — when Captain Miller first appears and does some flat exposition, the Critic starts to wonder if Event Horizon is actually a really bad prequel to The Matrix.
- Custom Uniform: In the spirit of Nostalgiaween, the Critic has jack-o'-lanterns patched all over his coat.
- Follow the Leader: To his irritation, the Critic shows how many scenes from Alien this movie ripped off.
- Hell: The devil moves it to the Critic's ass. Makes As Much Sense In Context.
- No Holds Barred Beat Down: Tamara and Malcolm deliver one to the Critic, after seeing fire come out of his ass, with a pipe wrench and hammer, respectively.
- Shout-Out:
- Nostalgiaween 2015's opening credits spoofs that of Goosebumps (1995), complete with a Suspiciously Similar Song.
- At the sight of Justin touching black goo at the heart of the titular ship, the Critic warns him of what happened when Peter Parker did the same (i.e., get an emo haircut and do an awkward dance number).
- What Could Have Been: In-Universe, the Critic realizes that resurgence of interest in the film as of late stems less from it becoming a cult hit than it is from fascination over leaked clips of Gorn that were cut out from both theatrical and home releases, wondering how better Event Horizon would have been had they been left intact.
