Recap / The Nostalgia Critic S 7 E 14

Go To

Release: July 15, 2014

Film: BloodRayne

Tagline: Uwe Boll is back, and so are Linkara and Spoony!

This review contains examples of:

  • Bait-and-Switch: Shortly after the review starts, Linkara takes the opportunity to discuss a certain Elephant in the Living Room. Viewers are initially led to believe that he's referring to certain incidents prior to Spoony's departure from Channel Awesome, before Linkara plays a clip from the Alone in the Dark review and points out how Spoony's wearing a Castleton sweater despite apparently not having went there (complete with the traditional Sting music).
  • The Bus Came Back: This episode marks Spoony's first reappearance since leaving Channel Awesome.
  • Butt-Monkey: The Cinema Snob is apparently going psychotic, and nobody's giving a shit.
Snob (after consulting a fortune-teller who asks him if the prositute he bit the neck of was a zombie prostitute): What the hell is wrong with everyone?!
  • Call-Back
    • The Critic, Linkara and Spoony do not believe the Cinema Snob's claims that he's turning into a Serial Killer unless his victims are composite creatures, of the kind the Critic and the Snob discussed during their last crossover episode.
    • Another one comes from Atop the Fourth Wall, where Linkara, frustrated by the film's inconsistencies, screams "Adamantium Rage!" before socking Spoony in the face, just like he did in his Wolverine: Adamantium Rage video game review.
  • The Cameo: The Cinema Snob occasionally appears just to demonstrate the film's abuse of the "Unusually Uninteresting Sight" trope.
  • Crossover: With Linkara and Spoony.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Spoony notes that the "oo" portion in the title looks pretty phallic, but the Critic claims that if Aliens could get away with a vagina-looking "i" on its title, then this film shouldn't be denied the right.
  • Dull Surprise: Michael Madsen's unenthusiastic portrayal of Vladimir, down to barely reacting to being fatally stabbed, is mocked by Linkara holding the same bored expression through all kinds of punishment.
    Linkara!Vladimir: ...Are we done?
  • Dynamic Entry: Spoony responds to the Critic's summon by crashing through the ceiling.
  • For the Evulz: The reason that the Snob gives for inexplicably becoming a serial killer is that he's "just kinda sick!".
  • Ham and Cheese: In-Universe, The three are very entertained by Meat Loaf's guest appearance and crack several jokes about it.
Critic & Linkara: Is that Meat Loaf?
    Spoony: Yep.
Linkara: Wearing a 19th century powdered wig?
    Spoony: Yep.
Critic: Surrounded by whores and giving a performance more over-the-top than a kabuki pole vaulter?
    Spoony: Yep.
    Critic: Oh, my God!
    Linkara: This is comedy overload!'''
  • It Only Works Once: At the end of the review, Linkara asks Spoony why he doesn't just fly back home. Spoony says it only works once.
  • MST3K Mantra: Invoked. Whenever someone (usually Linkara) tries to rage over the lack of consistency or logic in the movie's writing, the other two will try to calm him down by slowly chanting Uwe Boll's name in a "Well, this is an Uwe Boll movie. What do you expect?" kind of way.
  • Narm Charm: NC and Linkara are giddy at seeing Meat Loaf as Leonid that they and Spoony need a commercial break to come up with Meat Loaf jokes.
  • Noodle Incident: The tradition of the Critic, Spoony & Linkara reviewing Uwe Boll movies.
  • Not Even Bothering with the Accent: The guys note that Michelle Rodriguez as Katarin speaks in her usual accent than even attempt an English accent.
  • Pie in the Face: The ending, in pure Three Stooges style.
  • Shout-Out: There's recurring spoof of G.I. Joe's And Knowing Is Half the Battle with "UWE BOLL — and knowing it makes it even more confusing."
  • Take That!:
Linkara: And if you thought Twilight was the worst disservice to vampires the world has ever known, it is, but this one's pretty bad too.
  • There Was a Door: Spoony enters by crashing through the ceiling. Averted with Linkara who actually does use the door.
  • Three Stooges Shout-Out: The episode is book-ended in the style of The Three Stooges.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: They lampshade the overuse of it in the film by having The Cinema Snob slowly becoming a serial killer but with none of the three giving a crap.

My companion is gone. I don't know what's become of him.
