This review contains examples of:
- Actually Pretty Funny: The Critic liked exactly two jokes in the entire movie, both being back to back:Van Dough: Where are the gold bars? The diamonds? The... negotiable bearer bonds? The money? (takes out a gun) Where’s the MONEY?
Richard Sr.: In banks. Where else? And the stock market...
Van Dough: Shoot them. Shoot them now, please. - Avoid the Dreaded G RatingVan Dough: Shit!
Critic: Well, there's your PG rating, folks. Aren't you glad all you parents in the audience had to be dragged to this flick just for that? - Call-Back: Critic notes that both the bee and the professor have similarities to characters from Simon Sez and assumes there must be a conspiracy... before brushing it off.
- When Prof. Keenbean creates a fountain of bubbles to distract the guards, the "FUCKING BUBBLES!" clip plays, which was first used in the "Return of the Nostalgic Commercials" video.
- Genre Savvy: Critic points out the "token" kids who team up with Richie.
- Hypocritical Humor: When Richie shows his friends his very own McDonald's.Critic: I believe that's bad screenwriting for "insert your plug here".
(Fade Out to commercial)
Critic: NO GODDAMMI— - Mondegreen Gag: The Critic mishears "MY INVENTIONS!" as "Mayan vengeance", "Mighty pensions", "Ma's infections", and "Marty's steakhouse".
- Obviously Evil: Critic says that he knows Van Dough is evil because he's played by John Larroquette.
- Papa Wolf: Critic calls Cadbury his favorite character because he is caring and protective of Richie.
- Reality Subtext: Critic says the film is relevant today because it shows audiences how the 1% live.
- Real Trailer, Fake Movie: The Critic edits the Moneyball trailer into "That Stupid Guy With the Dumb Idea That Didn't Work" after seeing Richie run the Rich empire competently.Critic: You know, wouldn't it be more awesome in one of these movies if the hero just crash and burns the company?
- The Reveal: It's revealed that Chester A. Bum was born as Poor E. Broke.
- Sarcasm Mode: Critic says that Professor Keenbean's inventions won't have any importance in the climax.
- Shout-Out
- When Critic mentions Cadbury's name, he notes he doesn't sound like the Cadbury bunny.
- When the narrator says there was something missing in Richie's life, Critic thinks "Rosebud".
- A clip from Animaniacs is shown to illustrate a confusing scene about Richie and his father.
- A clip of Baby Plucky from Tiny Toon Adventures going, "Eww," plays when a prison guard tells some prisoners they have ten minutes to do whatever.
- When Prof. Keenbean's avatar shows up on the Dadfinder after Mr. and Mrs. Rich are discovered to be alive, the Critic does a Super Mario impression, saying, "It's-a me, Mario Batali!"
- Sophisticated as Hell: "Like a motherfucking boss, sir."
- Take That!: When Richie's father assumes the U.S. president wants another loan, Critic notes that joke makes the film timeless.
