Release: August 2, 2011

Film: The Care Bears: Adventure in Wonderland (1987)

This review contains examples of:

  • Actor Allusion: The Critic calls the Wonderland Princess that Alice impersonates Princess Peach. Tracey Moore, who voices Alice, provided the voice for Princess Peach (back when she still went by the Americanized name Princess Toadstool) in two of the cartoons.
  • Call-Back: The Critic gives another mention to the horrifying face on the villain that only lasts a couple frames. This was first mentioned in his Top 11 Scariest Nostalgic Moments video.
    • When the Cheshire Cat raps, The Critic says it's okay, but it's no "Pig Power in Da House", and starts dancing to the music. This was first featured in the Gordy review.
  • Department of Redundancy Department:
Critic: You know, the lack of logic in the characters' lack of logic really lacks of logic!
  • I Can't Believe I'm Saying This: The Critic finds himself saying this after being forced to witness a rap battle between the Cheshire Cat and Fritz the Dog:
Critic: I never thought I'd say this, but put Care Bears back on!
  • No Name Given: The Critic complains about the Queen, the Princess, and the Wizard being major characters with no names, and yet the Jabberwocky is given the name Stan.
Critic: Where are your priorities, movie? Do you just want us to forget we watched you?
  • Oh, Crap!:
Critic: Yeah, how'd you like to see a rap-off between the rapping cat from Care Bears and the rapping dog from Titanic? ...Oh God, I said it!
  • Subverted Catchphrase: "I'm The Nostalgia Critic, and I don't care!"
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: invokedThe Critic notes that the Wizard's Villain Song sounds a lot like "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life from Life of Brian''.
  • That Reminds Me of a Song: The Critic lampshades an instance of the movie doing this:
Mad Hatter: You like hats? I'm mad about hats!
Critic: Well, I've heard of worse reasons for a song.
  • [Verb] This!: In reaction to the final scene of the movie having Braveheart Lion faint twice over pickled beets, the Critic exclaims, "Repeat this!" He then smashes the VHS with a hammer.
  • With This Herring: How the Critic sees the princess test.
Critic: You know, this doesn't seem especially princessy! I mean, where in the book does it say she has to climb a friggin' mountain in a goddamn ball gown?! Is that sorta like training a Navy Seal by having a tea party?

"I'm just not special."
