This review contains examples of:

  • And There Was Much Rejoicing: Subverted. Critic is excited when it appears that Rover will die, but doesn't.
Critic: So it’s decided that Rover has to die for his crimes against the farm. It’s about fucking time if you ask me!
  • Call-Back: The Nostalgia Kitten says, "A CAT CREDIT CARD?!", a reference to his Batman & Robin review.
  • Catchphrase Interruptus: By cutting to The Nostalgia Kitten.
  • Celebrity Toons: Parodied. When Critic is disgusted about this concept and creating an animated Rodney Dangerfield animal character, he creates several other animals or objects based on celebrities, including Red Robin Williams, Andrew "Dice" Clay, the Chris Rock, Eddie Lizard and Pen and Teller.
Critic: Yeah, they're shit, but they're still better than this fucking crap!
    • Brick Joke: At the end, the Nostalgia Kitten shows up, only to be shot dead by the Duck Hunt dog.
  • Character Tic: The Critic does Dangerfield's nervous collar adjustment a few times.
  • Hypocritical Humor
Cal: It's hard for me Rover, but you've taken a life.
Critic as Cal: A life that... we were gonna take anyway, but um...
    Elysia: It was a life!
Critic as Cal: Yeah, what she said.
  • Hurricane of Puns: Critic says that the many, many puns are so bad, they're physically hurting him. This is represented by Rover, after making a pun, reaching out of the screen and slapping the Critic.
  • Jaw Drop: The Critic's reaction to the infamous scene where Rover discovers that the turkey died.
  • Jeopardy! Thinking Music: See Shout-Out.
  • Pun: After it's revealed that Rover had puppies:
Critic: [as Rodney] Hey, looks like I did end with a bang!
  • Running Gag: Anytime it appears Rover is dead, Critic slaps a "The End" card, then reminds the audience that while it didn't happen, he wished it did.
  • Shout-Out
    • Critic plays the Jeopardy! "think music" to set up a joke about guessing a pun Rover will make.
    • When Critic wonders about the trees that were cut down to make the paper used in the making of movie, it shows Treebeard doing a Skyward Scream at the chopped-down forest.
    • During a scene with strange lighting, Critic says that the film has turned into "Apocalypse Bow-Wow".
  • Take That!: Critic compare Rover to another dog that he hates, the Duck Hunt dog.

"I'm turnin' into a corndog!"
