Release: April 13, 2010

Film: Home Alone 3 (1997)

This review contains examples of:

  • Anti-Humor: When he sees that Scarlet Johannsen is in the movie, he states, "I already made a Scarlet Johannsen joke in my North review, so let's move on."
  • Lighter and Softer: At one moment in the film, some cops tell the family dog to freeze, and the dog holds his paw in mid-air. Then the dog is shot. The Critic (pretending to be John Hughes) ponders this dark turn and says:
Critic: Nah, nah, that's too dark. That's too dark. That's the old John Hughes. This is the quirky, lighthearted John Hughes! (sighs) Let’s see, let’s see... Oh! I know! (typing) "The dog actually freezes in place." (laughs) Delightful. (laughs again) Where's my absinthe?
  • Long List: The Critic lists off the movies John Hughes wrote in the '90s, all of which (in his opinion) sucked: Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Baby's Day Out, 101 Dalmatians (1996), Flubber, Just Visiting, Dennis the Menace, and Miracle on 34th Street.
  • Portmanteau:
Critic: What happened?! He was like the voice, and then he got lost to this slapstick-inspired shit... or “slapshit” as I like to call it.
  • Running Gag: The Critic pretending to be John Hughes while writing this movie, and finding everything he writes utterly hilarious while he consumes alcohol and drugs.
  • Shout-Out: The commercial for the board game "Mouse Trap" is played/heard over footage of the crooks getting pummeled by various traps.
  • Springtime for Hitler: The Critic (as John Hughes) attempts to write the worst possible script for a third Home Alone movie, rationalizing that the studio will hate it so much there's no way they'll want to use it and that way he won't be contractually obligated to make a third film. They love it.
    Critic-as-Hughes: My career is over!

(in Christopher Walken-esque voice) "How??"
