Show: The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!/The Legend of Zelda (1989)
This review contains examples of:
- Anything but That!: At the end of the Super Show portion of the review:Critic: That's it, I'm done! I can't take it, this show makes no sense! Show me something else. I don't care, just anything! Anything that doesn't have to do with this! (The Zelda portion of the review begins.) Except that! Except that!
- Brick Joke: Critic ends the show by going off to search for "Pot Land".
- Crossdressing Voices: Discussed.Critic: Give them some credit, though — they actually did get a woman to do the princess' voice. Instead of... whoever the hell they got to do it in the games.
(Clips of Peach speaking in Super Mario Strikers)
Critic: Why is it I always see, like, a fat, middle-aged balding man doing that voice? It's just so creepy! - Don't Explain the Joke:Critic: They come across a character named Indiana Joe. Get it? They remove the "N" and the "S" and it becomes a completely different name. Genius satire.
- The Faceless: "GIMMIE A FACE, YA FUCKIN' BUNGHOLES!"
- Forced Meme: The Critic mocks Link's repeated use of "Well, excuse me, Princess!" by saying, "I'm just gonna keep sayin' this till someone makes a t-shirt out of it."
- Pun: Critic mocks the Hyrule King's design by saying he looks like he's high and that's why the kingdom is called Hyrule.
- Sarcasm Mode: Critic blasts all the pasta puns by saying they're not stereotypical.
- Sick and Wrong:Mario: This is better than being flushed down the sewer!
Critic: (disturbed) Okay, I don't want to know what you do Friday nights. - Shout-Out
- When Critic compares Luigi's voice to George Carlin, he puts Carlin's "Seven Dirty Words" bit over the scene.
- Critic wonders why didn't they just call King Koopa "Bowser" or "The Artist Formerly Known as Bowser".
- Critic decides to replace Link's catchphrase with other sitcom catchphrases, such as "What-chu-talkin' about, Zelda?", "To the moon, your highness!" and "Dye-no-mite, Princess Hottie Pants!"
- Link is compared to Wheeler.
- Ganon's castle is compared to Castle Greyskull.
- Subverted Catchphrase: "I'm the Nostalgia Critic. Now if you'll excuse me, my neverending search for Pot Land continues."
- Take That!: Critic says that Toad sounds like Jay Leno's mentally deficient cousin.
- Teleport Spam: The Critic is baffled by Ganon teleporting around for no apparent reason while plotting.Critic: Does he have ATD — Attention Teleportation Disorder?
- Tempting Fate: When the opening theme starts with the first few bars of the Mario theme...Critic: Well at least they have the original video game music. I mean, it's not like they'll try to modernize it with like some retarded rap or something.
(rap starts)
Critic: You know, I gotta learn to keep my fucking mouth shut.
