Film: Horton Hears a Who! (2008)
Tagline: The Dr. Seuss movies have been pretty bad, but this one is said to be the... least bad. Are people right?
We remembered these tropes so you don't have to:
- Adaptation Decay: The Critic begins the review with a summary of the poor track record of cinematic adaptations of Dr. Seuss's works, while also noting that this film is more or less an exception.
- So Okay, It's Average: The Critic ultimately agrees that this film is the least irritating of the various adaptations of Dr. Seuss's works (barring the infamous anime sequence).
- Take That!:
- While explaining why most Dr. Seuss adaptations suck, the Critic puts up clips of such infamous scenes as the "dirty hoe" line, the Grinch sticking out his butt as a taunt, and the Once-ler's Villain Song.
- Realizing that this film stars Jim Carrey as Horton and Steve Carell as Ned, the Critic snarks that such a combination works so well, while showing a poster of Bruce Almighty.
- Seeing that Horton is fully CGI, the Critic feigns relief that at least Carrey is not in make-up, while showing him in make-up as the Grinch.
