Recap / The New Mr Peabody And Sherman Show S 03 E 01 The Wrath Of Hughes

Go To

Mr. Peabody and Sherman are eager to start their second season and cut right to telling the story of how they resolved the previous season finale.

Trapped in a dystopian alternate timeline ruled over by a Cyborg Mrs. Hughes, Mr. Peabody and Sherman are aided by another Mr. Peabody in their quest to infiltrate the penthouse and recover the WABAC in order to fix history and restore the timeline to normal.

Tropes:

  • Air-Vent Passageway: The Mr. Peabodies and Sherman infiltrate the penthouse this way.
  • Bad Future: In the absence of comedy, Mrs. Hughes has taken over the world, eliminating things like fun, dance and music to make an efficient world.
  • Care-Bear Stare: The Peabodies and Shermans deliver the final blow to The Hughes by firing rainbows from WABAC symbols on their chests.
  • Continuity Nod: Maria survived the timeline rewrite unchanged, and has spent her time hiding out watching the Season 1 boxset of the Mr. Peabody and Sherman Show she won in the previous episode.
  • Contrived Coincidence: The Alternate Mr. Peabody was able to get to the present from Ancient Greece by making cryogenic tubes out of objects he found in Ancient Greece: Olives, Yogurt, Sheep and two working cryogenic tubes that happened to already be there.
  • Delivery Guy Infiltration: Mr. Peabody comes up with a plan to infiltrate the penthouse by pretending to be singing telegrams, but Alternate Peabody interrupts him and suggests an Air-Vent Passageway instead.
  • Eyepatch After Time Skip: Alternate Peabody wears his bowtie over his eye like an eyepatch.
  • Foreshadowing: Alternate Peabody's missing child posters are extremely poorly illustrated. Mr. Peabody's poor art skills will be an important plot point in a later episode.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Alternate Peabody has been spending his time trying to find his Sherman, and missing child posters he's made can be seen in the background.
    MISSING: My beautiful son
    REWARD: I will do ANYTHING!
    In the alley
  • Future Badass: Alternate Peabody is this, even though strictly speaking he is Mr. Peabody's past self, The Slow Path makes him older than our Peabody.
  • Future Me Scares Me: Mr. Peabody isn't fond of his alternate self and wonders how on earth he could become so gross and weird.
  • Idiot Ball: Desperate to protect Sherman, Mr. Peabody keeps trying to hide him somewhere safe, but as Alternate Peabody points out, the entire world is hostile and there is nowhere safe for Sherman to hide.
  • I Fell for Hours: After spending the entire end credits to the previous episode falling, this episode opens with Mr. Peabody and Sherman still falling.
Sherman: I love you, Mr. Peabody!
Mr. Peabody: I love you too, Sherman!
    (They scream some more)
Sherman: It's been really fun traveling through time with you!
Mr. Peabody: Yes, Sherman, fun and remarkably educational all at the same time! I too will miss it!
    (They scream some more)
Sherman: And you've been a really great dad!
Mr. Peabody: Thanks Sherman, you too! Great son, I mean, not dad!
(They scream some more, but then stop)
Sherman: Sheesh, this is a really long fall, isn't it?
  • Improbable Weapon User: Alternate Peabody's arsenal is comprised of office supplies. Alternate Christine fights with fashion supplies.
  • Interactive Narrator: Alternate Peabody interrupts the narration of Peabody's plan to dismiss it as silly, which means three different versions of Mr. Peabody briefly interact with each other.
  • Irony: Alternate Peabody, who has lost his Sherman, is the one trying to convince Mr. Peabody that he shouldn't be so scared of losing Sherman.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Both Shermans groan at Mr. Peabody's pun, but Alternate Peabody gives him a high-five.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: The group find a filing room and Sherman begins singing a song about all the amazing things he can do with 1,000 manila envelopes.
  • The Power of Rock: Sherman is able to free Alternate Sherman from The Hughes' control by singing, and realizes that song and dance are outlawed because they are the only thing that can defeat her.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: Besides the Mr. Peabodies and Shermans, Maria has also somehow transcended time itself and is completely unchanged.
  • The Slow Path: Alternate Peabody and Alternate Sherman are the Time Travel Story Mr. Peabody and Sherman last seen in Ancient Greece. The two caught up back to the present via cryogenic tubes.
  • Suddenly Voiced: The new timeline features a talking Sweet Tune and a talking Mrs. Hughes.
  • Timey-Wimey Ball: Both sets of Mr. Peabody and Sherman have survived history being rewritten. As the future that allows for Alternate Mr. Peabody to become our Mr. Peabody no longer exists, the two can now touch each other without risk of merging.
  • Unwilling Roboticisation: Alternate Sherman was captured by The Hughes and turned into a Cyborg.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: There is no in-studio subplot to this episode.
  • World-Healing Wave: The purified Mrs. Hughes smirks, which creates a wave that turns the dystopian city into a partying utopia.
