Catwoman is on the run from a cat cult that she stole a statue from.

Tropes

  • All Animals Are Dogs: Catwoman encounters a vicious black panther. When Catwoman tames it, it starts playfully licking her like a dog. The saber-toothed cat later on in the episode does the same thing. Though big cats do this as a sign of affection, their tongues are so rough that bare human skin will bleed from getting licked too much.
  • Bad Liar: We first see Batman, as he's taking care of two masked guys who tried to rob a jewelry store.
First Crook: We're locksmiths, I swear!
Second Crook: Yeah. And the masks? Uh, a fashion statement.
  • Comic-Book Movies Don't Use Codenames: Catman just goes by his civilian identity of Thomas Blake. He also wears a black outfit rather than his colorful comic book costume.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Catwoman's habit of betrayal is the reason why Batman is reluctant to trust her to help him escape the pit:
    Catowman: Don't you trust me?
Batman: I might have been knocked out twice tonight, but I still have my long-term memory.
  • Dating Catwoman: Defied. Catwoman repeatedly flirts with Batman and even kisses him at one point, but he's not the slightest bit interested in that. He's all business on this one.
  • Dramatic Irony: All the members of the cult that venerates cats are shown to be actually hated by the two big cats (a black panther and the saber-toothed cat) that they have.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Played with. It's a Sweet and Sour Grapes variation where Catwoman indeed mostly honors her end of the bargain for once. Mostly. She promised Batman she would return everything she ever stole throughout her cat burglar career. She never said she wouldn't take what the cult had stolen. All the same, her saving Batman not only means they part ways on good terms, but she gets to retire in luxury.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Catwoman is a chronic thief and liar, but she's not going to let the cult kill Batman.
  • Fluffy Tamer: The panther and then the saber-tooth instantly bond with Catwoman and attack the cultists. And instead of attacking Batman, the saber-tooth pounces at Blake when he tries to attack Batman.
  • Formula-Breaking Episode: In something of a throwback to the original episodes, none of Batman's partners appear in this TNBA episode. He's going solo this time.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: The saber-toothed cat created by the cat-worshipping cult attacks all of them.
  • In Name Only: Catman doesn't bear much resemblance to his comic book counterpart.
  • Mugging the Monster: Catwoman gets in trouble by robbing a dangerous cult. And just when she gets on their good side, she tries robbing them again.
  • Mythology Gag: Catwoman had a black panther as a companion/muscle during the Bronze Age.
  • Prehistoric Monster: Blake’s scientists used genetic splicing to create a monstrous cat that is essentially a gigantic Smilodon and he pits it against Batman during the climax, and yet Catwoman still manages to tame it. After Blake's defeat, the sabretooth is taken to the Gotham Zoo.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The cult members use mechanical "cat claws" that look familiar.
    • When the female cult member calls Selina a common thief, she retorts that she's a "spectacular thief".
  • Stealing from Thieves: Catwoman justifies being able to retire with wealth to Batman in that all of the cult's treasures she takes with her weren't technically stolen by her in the first place.
