Recap / The New Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh S 2 E6b The Monster Frankenpooh

Go To

In this short episode, Piglet, Tigger, Rabbit, and Gopher are telling stories by the fireplace. Piglet wants a safe, less scary story, but Tigger quickly commandeers his story into a horror story of the mad Dr. Von Piglet, who creates a huge monster Frankenpooh who begins running amok.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes.

  • An Aesop:
    • Scary stories can indeed be scary, but they're also just stories and you can overcome your fear of them.
    • Have the courage and backbone to tell your story/work the way you want to.
  • Animation Bump: This is one of the first episodes handled by the Australia studio, so the animation is fuller.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Tigger decides to make Pooh bigger so that he's scarier. He later decides to make him bigger still, but then Pooh couldn't fit in the film anymore.
  • The Cameo: Owl appears briefly as a villager who joins Rabbit and Gopher in raiding Piglet’s castle, but doesn't appear in the main episode outside of the story.
  • Duck Season, Rabbit Season: Piglet wants his story to take place in the daytime, while Tigger wants it to take place at night. They argue back and forth until Tigger says "morning" to trick Piglet into saying "evening".
  • Everyone Has Standards: Gopher and Rabbit, the latter especially, are none too pleased at Tigger hijacking Piglet's story.
  • Fractured Fairy Tale: Not exactly a fairy tale, but still fractured storytelling. This would later be followed up by "Three Little Piglets".
  • Frankenstein's Monster: Parodied in this episode, with Piglet as the scientist and Pooh as the monster.
  • Franken-X: Naturally.
  • Gainax Ending: The group assures Piglet that the story was all make-believe, and ask Pooh to confirm as well. However, the real Pooh has somehow turned giant as well.
  • Halloween Episode: Subverted. The episode has nothing to do with Halloween, but due to the themes of the scary story being told and Frankenstein's monster, this is the headlining short of a video compilation of this episode, "Things That Go Piglet in the Night", and Pooh Moon", that was released in both 1995 and 2001 as part of Disney's Halloween fare.
  • Inconsistent Episode Lengths: This episode is notable for only lasting 5 minutes, about half the length of the show’s standard 11 minute runtime. The preceding episode, "No Rabbit’s A Fortress" lasted roughly 15-16 minutes. The only other episode to run this short is the similarly themed "Three Little Piglets".
  • Overly Long Gag: Gopher's fall lasts nearly 20 seconds.
  • Torches and Pitchforks: The villagers storm the castle to get at Piglet for unleashing the monster.
