Recap / The New Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh S 1 E2a Friend In Deed

Go To

Pooh has been borrowing too much of Rabbit's honey. Tired of getting sponged out of his honey, Rabbit tries to play a trick on Pooh to convince him he's moving away; but Pooh misinterprets it as moving away due to being worried he won't visit him anymore. Thus, Pooh sets out to gather some honey to prevent Rabbit from leaving.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes.

  • Absurdly Ineffective Barricade: Rabbit nails several boards over his door to keep Pooh out at the start of the episode. As he reaches for another board, Pooh hands it to him and Rabbit thanks Pooh before realizing who it was. When Rabbit asks Pooh how he got in, the bear with very little brain says that Rabbit's back door was open.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Pooh misinterprets Rabbit's trick to think that Rabbit is moving away because Pooh won't visit him anymore without honey.
  • Delayed Reaction: When Pooh hands Rabbit a board after getting in through the back door, Rabbit thanks Pooh and goes to nail the board over his front door when he realizes who handed Rabbit the board.
  • Dramatic Irony: We know that Rabbit isn't really moving away, and what the true intention of his trick is, but Pooh's misinterpretation drives the plot and his character in this episode.
  • Heel Realization: Two way example. After Pooh drains Rabbit's supply of honey, the latter tricks him into thinking he's moving away for it. A guilt ridden Pooh tries everything to replenish him with honey, even begging Rabbit not to leave until he gets it, leaving Rabbit incredibly moved.
  • It's All About Me: Played for Laughs. When Pooh thinks Rabbit is moving away, he assumes it's because Rabbit is afraid Pooh won't visit him if he doesn't have honey. Pooh ends up subverting the trope since he becomes determined to find honey so Rabbit won't leave, and Rabbit sees his selflessness for what it is.
  • Mythology Gag: While disguised as a flower, Piglet wears a green shirt, making him resemble his book counterpart.
  • Sanity Slippage: Rabbit is undergoing yet another breakdown from Pooh's leeching off of him when the episode begins.
  • Second Episode Introduction: Both Eeyore and Gopher make their debut to the series here.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: Rabbit says that Pooh shall not pass into his house while nailing boards over his front door.
