This episode has examples of

  • Awkward Poetry Reading: Miss Piggy gets jealous when the audience cheers for Annie Sue's rendition of "Carbon Paper". To make it up to Piggy, Kermit sets the stage full of daffodils and tells her she can do an act she's always wanted to do: reciting William Wordsworth's poem "The Daffodils". It turns out that everyone's allergic to the daffodils, and one of Piggy's sneezes sends Rowlf and his piano flying offstage. Then the audience sneezes, sending Piggy reeling backward.
Miss Piggy: [to Kermit, after the number] And what do you have to say for yourself?
    [Kermit sneezes.]
  • Compliment Backfire: Annie Sue claims to have admired Miss Piggy since she was a baby. Needless to say, Piggy is not flattered.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Leo tells Dr. Teeth that the arrangement for "The Show Must Go On" sounded good but wasn't quite the one he sent in. Dr. Teeth explains that when Leo's arrangements came, Animal had them for lunch.
    Leo: He ate my arrangements?
Dr. Teeth: Well, he certainly couldn't read 'em. When Animal gets anything, he either hits it or eats it. No third alternative.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: At the opening, Leo is in his dressing room, expressing doubt that he's actually on The Muppet Show.
Leo: You know, I don't really believe this is The Muppet Show. It's so quiet in here, you can almost hear a pin drop.
[Bowling pins and balls rain from the sky. Two monsters pass by with bowling balls, laughing.]
    Luncheon Counter Monster: Strike!
Leo: Now I believe it's The Muppet Show.
  • Malicious Misnaming: When Kermit introduces Miss Piggy to Annie Sue, the former, jealous that the show has another, younger pig singer, greets her as "Annabel".

Waldorf: That was an amazing mess of mediocre mediocrity!
Statler: You can say that again.
Waldorf: Wanna bet?
