This episode has examples of

  • Be the Ball: The Swedish Chef's way of preparing chicken in a basket is to shoot it like a basketball.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": Marvin yells this at the Muppaphones constantly, especially when they grumble.
  • Blatant Lies: Marvin, when Kermit interviews him, says he loves the Muppaphones and they love him. We've already seen him bludgeon one just for correcting him, and he continues doing so through the sketch.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Fozzie, in an attempt to become more assertive, has been taking group therapy. Arriving at the theater after one of these sessions, he tells Kermit he won't be doing his comic monologue because he "does not need to buy friends with laughter anymore" and is about to ''meet [his] true self". When Kermit informs the audience that Fozzie won't be going on, they applaud in celebration. Fozzie takes the applause to mean that they actually want him to perform.
Kermit: Uh, ladies and gentlemen, due to the indisposition of Fozzie Bear, there will be no comic monologue on this show.
    [The audience cheers wildly.]
Fozzie: [watching from the wings] Scooter, they... they want me! They... they like me! THEY NEED ME! [He rushes out of the wings.] Hey-ya! Hey-ya! Hey-ya!
    Scooter: Fozzie...!
Kermit: And so, on with The Muppet Sh
    Fozzie: [running onstage] Hey-ya! Hey-ya! Hey-ya! Hey-ya!
Kermit: Fozzie, what are you doing here?
    Fozzie: My monologue. Haaaaaa.
Kermit: But... but you were supposed to meet your true self.
    Fozzie: I just met him.
    Kermit: What's he like?
Fozzie: He's shallow, insecure, and needs to buy friends with laughter.
  • Driven by Envy: Piggy, jealous of Raquel, inserts herself into "I'm a Woman."
  • Fanservice: Raquel, after saying she isn't on the show solely for the sex appeal, performs "Baby It's Me" in a very revealing spangly dress.
  • Giant Spider: Raquel's partner in "Baby It's Me."
  • Gibberish of Love: Fozzie, when Raquel tells him she adores him, becomes incapable of speaking coherently.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: Marvin insists he's not cruel to the Muppaphones. Then, when they grumble, he yells at them to shut up before hitting them.
  • Teach Him Anger: Fozzie returns from group therapy, which he has been taking to try to learn to be assertive. His group leader told him to be more aggressive, but this doesn't always work, especially when a hungry Animal runs over him on his way to the canteen.
  • Unconventional Food Order: Animal orders raw eggs and chili peppers from the canteen.
  • V-Sign: Swedish Chef declares landing the chicken in the pot through a basketball hoop as "two points", and holds up two fingers in a peace sign.
  • You Don't Want to Know: Marvin tells Kermit that the Muppaphones have to be replaced every two or three months, as they go flat — literally. When Kermit asks what happens to them after that, Marvin says, "I don't think you want to know."

Statler: Have you ever thought there must be life after death?
Waldorf: Every time I leave this theater.
[Both chuckle, Statler falls over]
