This episode provides examples of:

  • Actually, I Am Him: In the House of Horrors sketch, Vincent mentions that he's travelling with a beautiful assistant and a hideously deformed monster. In walks Uncle Deadly.
Fozzie: Whoa! Hideously deformed is right!
Uncle Deadly: Watch it! I'm the beautiful assistant.
  • Attack of the Killer Whatever: The Muppet News Flash sketch is about furniture turning into monsters and attacking people. A man watching the broadcast is attacked by his own furniture and eventually eaten by the TV set. At the end, the Newsman is eaten by his own desk.
  • Characterization Marches On: Along with Fozzie, Gonzo is terrified in the Haunted Mansion scene. Yes, the same Gonzo who would later become a Nightmare Fetishist.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Uncle Deadly makes his first appearance in the House of Horrors sketch, before his proper introduction as the Phantom of the Muppet Theater.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Gorgon Heap, from the Panel Discussion sketch, introduced as "one of the world's great eaters." He eats everything that's in front of him, including French chef Pierre LaCousse. Eventually, he decides to eat Kermit—and so does Vincent, who has a preference for frogs' legs.
Gorgon Heap: [grabbing Kermit's arm] Say, you look delicious!
Kermit: Uh, wait a second! Get away from me, you hulking creep! Vincent, can you stop him, please?
Vincent: Froggy, you have to admit, you DO look tasty! [He picks up a shaker and begins salting Kermit.]
Kermit: Uh, tune in next week, when our topic for discussion will be... HELLLLLP! [He's Swallowed Whole by Gorgon Heap.]
Vincent: [to camera] I know I'm a bit of a devil, but I do love frogs' legs. [Licks his lips.]
  • Faux Horrific: According to Uncle Deadly, at midnight on New Year's Eve, Vincent turns into... Guy Lombardonote ! Cue Vincent wearing a party hat and blowing a noisemaker whilst conducting an orchestra playing "Auld Lang Syne," which sends Gonzo, Fozzie, and Uncle Deadly running away in horror.
  • Getting Eaten Is Harmless:
    • Shakey Sanchez is Swallowed Whole by Behemoth at the beginning of "I've Got You Under My Skin." After the number, Shakey is seen backstage, shivering but unharmed.
    • Moments after getting eaten by Gorgon Heap, Kermit appears in Statler and Waldorf's theater box.
Waldorf: This show should be reported to the consumer protection agency.
      Statler: Why?
Waldorf: The host was just consumed.
[Kermit pops up in the box.]
Kermit: Uh, don't count on it.
Statler: Hey, this is our box, fella! Let me see your ticket stub.
      [Kermit grimaces.]
  • Halloween Episode: This is the first Halloween episode of the series.
  • Jekyll & Hyde: Uncle Deadly warns that at the stroke of midnight, Vincent turns into a hideous creature ("and then I get mean.") This warning turns out to be true when he turns into... Jack Parnell, and sends the Muppets running.
  • Ominous Pipe Organ: Vincent plays one while singing "You've Got a Friend" with Uncle Deadly, assorted monsters, and a duo of ghosts.
  • Pie in the Face: In the introduction, Kermit says that they won't have any of the usual craziness, slapstick and silliness that night. In comes Fozzie to hit him in the face with a pie.
  • Re-Cut: "I'm Looking Through You" was only shown in Europe. It was never seen in North America until it was reran on Nickelodeon and Disney Channel. This scene is on Disney+.
  • Silly Spook: Ghosts resembling translucent sheets floating in mid-air, with black holes for the eyes and mouths, tell jokes in "At the Dance" and join Vincent in singing "You've Got a Friend." In the UK spot, two of them sing "I'm Looking Through You" to a smaller Bedsheet Ghost.
  • Swallowed Whole: Shakey Sanchez, the little Muppet who gets eaten at the beginning of "I've Got You Under My Skin." He occasionally pops out of Behemoth's mouth to sing his lines, and even throws in a bit of "Que Sera, Sera."
  • Tuckerisation: The Muppet News Flash sketch mentions an Officer David Goelz, named after Muppet performer Dave Goelz (Gonzo).
  • Visual Pun: One happens when Vincent is looking for Hilda so he can ask her to carry his costumes up.
Sweetums: [walking in] Oh, excuse me, Mr. Price?
    Vincent: Yes?
Sweetums: Can I give you a hand?
    Vincent: Oh, please.
[Sweetums pulls off his right hand and gives it to Vincent.]
    Sweetums: Here!
Vincent: That's my kind of joke.

Thudge McGerk: [gibberish]
Waldorf: Well, that's easy for you to say.
