Speedy Death

Original Airdate: 31 August 1998

Tropes:

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Eleanor, a seemingly meek and wheelchair bound socialite, killed her fiancé and attempted two more murders.
  • The Butler Did It: The housekeeper killed Eleanor to avoid the shame and humiliation that would've arisen when she was arrested for murder.
  • Deadly Bath: Eleanor’s fiancé is found dead in the bathtub, presumably drowned from a narcoleptic episode.
  • Fourth-Date Marriage: Happens twice over by the end.
  • Gender Reveal: Eleanor’s fiancé was biologically a woman passing herself off as a man. Though it’s not made clear whether the cross dressing was for the travel and exploration opportunities not given to women, or if it was because they were trans.
  • Gold Digger: Mr. Bing thinks that Garde’s girlfriend, later fiancée, is this. Unbeknownst to him, he’s right.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Garde is shown to have a quick temper.
  • Karma Houdini: Because she dies, Eleanor is never arrested or punished for her crimes.
  • Obfuscating Disability: Eleanor Bing was believed to have been paralyzed after a car accident. But it’s revealed that she made a full recovery but kept pretending to be paralyzed to gain sympathy and attention.
  • Outgrowing the Childish Name: Eleanor wants to shed her childhood nickname “Mouse.”
  • Parental Favoritism: Eleanor accuses her father of favoring her brother Garde and making her The Unfavorite.
  • Uptown Girl: Eleanor was this for her fiancé.
