Recap / The Mask S 2 E 6 Channel Surfin

Go To

A Trapped in TV Land episode where a television based supervillain (Channel Surfer) traps The Mask (and, by proxy, Stanley) inside the idiot box and plots to brainwash the entire town into watching the final episode of Pointy Peaks (a Twin Peaks expy that was pulled from the air due to protests over content).

Tropes:

  • Everyone Has Standards: The Mask does not like any viewers seeing him being on a toilet showing that he knows people does not want to see him on a toilet and he does not like any shows that is sickeningly sweet to him as he cannot stand any singing from a bears TV show. He ironically agrees with everyone else that Gilligan Island needs to get a move on instead of going through the same thing which also show that The Mask is while genuinely insane not a idiot as he would find a way to get himself and everyone off the island instead of causing problems that prevent them from getting off it.
  • Just Eat Gilligan: While in a blatant parody of Gilligan's Island, the Mask finally gets to tell an expy of the Skipper what everyone had been thinking for decades; "FIX THE HOLE IN THE BOAT!"
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: The Mask gets told by Peggy to just take his face off to free both him and Stanley but he refuses so Peggy decides to change to another channel which finally gets The Mask to do it.
  • Only Sane Man: The Mask is this in a visit to Gilligan's Island to tell the Skipper what people have been complaining for years.
Mask: You've been here for over 30 years. You've built a nuclear reactor out of coconuts. FOR PITY'S SAKE, MAN! FIX THE HOLE IN THE BOAT!
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: The Mask as always turns into a surfer, a genie, a handyman, a teenage boy, a disco dancer, a talk show assistant, a doll while inside the TV, a combo of both Wrestler and Gridiron, a general in black uniform, a tourist also in a black shirt, a slim cook in full white and a genie again.
