Recap / The Loud House S1E12 "Along Came a Sister / Chore and Peace"

Go To

Along Came a Sister: Lincoln is tasked with taking care of Frank, the class tarantula, but the spider escape and must protect him from arachnophobic Leni, and then from a determined exterminator.

Chore and Peace: Feeling overworked while taking out the trash on Chore Day, Lincoln goes on strike until someone swaps chores with him.

"Along Came a Sister"

  • Between My Legs: Lincoln between Lori's, when he's searching for Frank.
  • Brick Joke: Twice. When Lincoln comes home with Frank, Luan is pranking Leni with a fake spider. Later, when Lincoln is looking for Frank, he finds Luan's fake spider and when Frank falls on Leni's milk glass, she thinks Luan is pranking her again. Until she notices that it looks just a little too real...
  • Continuity Nod: Leni's arachnophobia, which was previously seen in "Left in the Dark" and "No Guts, No Glori".
  • Disney Death: Frank barely escapes poisonous gas twice.
  • The "Fun" in "Funeral": Lucy agrees to lead the funeral of (what was thought to be) a dead Frank by opening a pamphlet on what kind of shoebox to bury him in. The cover even mentions this by name.
  • Gender Reveal: Frank, as it turns out, is actually a female spider.
  • Gosh Dang It to Heck!: When Lincoln panics over losing Frank, he moans, "Crud, crud, crud!".
  • Here We Go Again!: The episode ends with Leni screaming after Frank's babies hatch.
  • It's All My Fault: Lincoln realizes that the whole mess was his fault since he brought Frank home knowing Leni was afraid of spiders.
  • Kick the Dog: The Exterminator cruelly gassing a harmless caterpillar family.
  • Meaningful Rename: Following Frank's gender reveal as a girl, she is renamed Frances.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After Leni has apparently killed Frank, she overhears Lincoln admit to his other sisters that taking Frank home when he knew Leni was terrified of spiders was a bad idea. Her remorseful reaction suggests she regrets her actions.
  • Status Quo Is God: Ironically, although Leni sets her arachnophobia aside to save Frank's life, and Lincoln's reputation, it has not permanently disappeared.
  • Too Much Information: Mrs. Johnson divulges a little too much about her personal life in front of the class, resulting in an awkward silence.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Leni and Dad are deathly afraid of spiders. This is even more so for the latter, who has the exterminator on speed dial.
  • Worst. Whatever. Ever!: "WORST SURPRISE PARTY EVER!!!"
  • Your Tomcat Is Pregnant: Not only is Frank revealed to be a female spider, but as Lisa points, it's revealed that the reason she was acting sluggish was because she about to lay her eggs.

"Chore and Peace"

  • Adults Are Useless: Mom and Dad won't intervene to let the kids solve the problem themselves, preferring to do a jigsaw puzzle together instead. They do, however, have the sense to keep Lily away from the mess.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Lincoln only went on strike to get a different chore, not to stop doing them. The girls respond by going on their own strikes.
  • Here We Go Again!: Lincoln and his sisters go on strike again to get their parents to pay them for their work, when they hear from Mr. Grouse that the garbage men are on strike.
  • Instant Messenger Pigeon: With the power out and no cellphone connection, Lori "texts" Bobby by having Walt carry messages to him. Unfortunately for her, Clyde gets the message.
  • Morality Pet: The kids end their strikes and clean up the house when they notice Lily is missing.
  • Morton's Fork: Should the sisters swap chores with Lincoln and "open a can of worms" as Lori claims will happen, or refuse to swap chores with Lincoln and allow the house to fall into a squalid mess, opening a different can of worms entirely? Decisions, decisions...
  • Muck Monster: Trashy, a sentient pile of trash created from it mixing with Lisa's chemicals.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Lincoln and all of his sisters finally call off their strikes and start cleaning up the house after seemingly losing Lily in all of the garbage they've piled up in it.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: The various chants.
  • Running Gag:
    • Dad inviting Mom to do a jigsaw puzzle with him and demanding she call him various jigsaw related nicknames.
    • Leni mocking Lincoln's white hair and calling him "Pop-Pop" like their grandfather.
  • Show, Don't Tell: Aggravatingly averted! Lori claims that her and her sisters' chores "are just as hard as [Lincoln's], if not harder", even though we see that the other girls have much easier chores: three girls (Luan, Lynn, and Lucy) get to work together on one chore, Leni's chore is just pulling hair out of the bathroom drain, Lana's poop-scooping is practically a hobby, and Lori's chore of "laundry" has the washer and dryer do her work for her. Lori also claims that swapping chores "will literally open a can of worms." Yet we don't see that happen because none of the sisters swap chores with Lincoln at all!
  • Strike Episode: Lincoln goes on strike until one of his sisters agrees to trade chores with him, and his sisters go on strike in response and the trash accumulates. It gets to the point where the garbage in Lisa's room becomes sentient. Rita and Lynn Sr. won't even intervene in order to let the kids solve the problem themselves, preferring to do a jigsaw puzzle together instead. They do, however, have the sense to keep Lily away from the mess, which cause the kids to think that she's gone missing in the trash and they end their strike in a panic and start cleaning up the mess they made in order to find her. The episode ends with the garbage being taken out and the strikes ending, but Lincoln finds out from Mr. Grouse that the garbage workers are on strike for more money, and now he and his sisters are striking to get pay for their chores.
  • Trash of the Titans: Deconstructed. Lincoln's refusal to take out the trash results in a serious problem. It gets even worse when his sisters strike from their chores to spite him. It results in the house becoming progressively unsanitary to the point where it completely drives other people away.
  • Waxing Lyrical:
Luna: "Chores! Huh! What are they good for?"
The sisters (altogether): "ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! SAY IT AGAIN!"
  • Why We Need Garbagemen: The episode begins with Lincoln refusing to take out the trash, followed soon after by his sisters going on strike from their chores, resulting in trash and mess piling up all over the house. Then, at the end of the episode, they find out from Mr. Grouse that the city's sanitation workers are going on strike for better pay, prompting all the kids to do the same.
