This episode provides examples of:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Bugs calls Don, a complete stranger he invites to his latest party "Dan".
  • Acrofatic: Despite being morbidly obese, Bugs easily makes it into the swimming pool to save Daffy in just three hops from the bleachers.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: An example involving both genders with Gossamer's classmates; Andrew is the blonde, Maya is the Brunette, and Emily is the Redhead.
  • Did You Get a New Haircut?: Daffy does this after Bugs becomes morbidly obese. His first guess is that Bugs is doing something different with his hair, followed by asking if he has new gloves. He finally realizes that Bugs is morbidly obese after Bugs saves him from drowning.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: While coaching Gossamer for water polo, Daffy tells him not to eat Porky's desserts, because he's still training. Considering how important it is to eat healthy food, and just how unhealthy Porky's desserts are, Daffy has a point.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When Maya asks Daffy why Gossamer can't be the goalie, Daffy tells her that Gossamer is too big and will block the whole goal. Upon realizing this, he decides to go with Maya's idea.
  • Failed a Spot Check: In the "Laser Beam" Merrie Melodies music video, Marvin sings a sad song about his laser beam when it doesn't work. At the end of the song, it is revealed that all he needed to do to get it to work was plug it in.
  • The Fat Episode: This episode's B-plot involves Bugs becoming morbidly obese as a result of becoming addicted to Porky's food.
  • Grandma's Recipe: After Porky's catering business hasn't had much luck, Bugs convinces Porky to use his grandmother's recipes, which are all full of butter. Soon, Porky's business is back on track, particularly because Bugs becomes addicted to the food and throws parties that he wants Porky to cater just so he can eat the food. Eventually, all of Bugs' friends are sick of his parties, so he invites complete strangers. Porky warns Bugs that the recipes might be unhealthy, but Bugs pays no attention. Sure enough, the food he is addicted to has made him very fat.
  • Impossibly Delicious Food: The dishes Porky cooks from his grandmother's recipes are this, especially to Bugs. The principal ingredient is butter.
  • Instant Taste Addiction: Bugs helps Porky start his catering by following the recipes of Porky's grandma which ends up getting Bugs hooked on the food since those recipes contained butter and he eventually starts gaining weight. Bugs is so hooked that he starts throwing parties at his home so he has an excuse for Porky to make him the food, and even when his friends stop attending his parties due to how unhealthy the food is, with some of them hinting to Bugs about his recent weight gain which he's oblivious to, he invites random strangers instead. Bugs finally quits the food when Daffy bluntly tells him he's suddenly fat.
  • Irony: Daffy can't swim, despite being a duck.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: When Gossamer and his classmates lose their first game, Daffy doesn't get mad at Gossamer, and instead blames himself for not understanding how water polo is played. When Gossamer decides he doesn't want to be the goalie anymore, Daffy realizes that winning isn't everything and is happy that his kids were having fun.
  • Literal-Minded: When Gossamer tells Daffy about water polo, Daffy thinks the sport involves horses, and puts some in the community pool.
  • Nutritional Nightmare: Porky's grandmother's recipes feature heavy use of butter and sausage among other things. When Bugs hires him to cater his parties, he gets hooked on the food, and triples in size as a result. Porky lampshades it when he refuses to cater to any more of Bugs' parties, claiming that no one should eat that much butter.
  • Shout-Out: When Daffy trains Gossamer and his classmates for water polo, he describes the plot of the first Rocky movie. He then describes the plot of The Wizard of Oz.
  • Temporary Bulk Change: Bugs puts on a lot of weight after he gets addicted to Porky's grandmother's family recipes. Porky eventually cuts him off, saying "No one should eat that much butter!", and an incident at the public pool convinces Bugs to shed the excess pounds.
  • Two Girls and a Guy: Gossamer's classmates consist of Emily (Female), Maya (Female) and Andrew (Male).
  • Victory Is Boring: The Bobcats manage to score victories when Gossamer is made the goalie, due to his huge body blocking the whole goal. Gossamer becomes upset, because he feels his victory isn't fair to the other team.
  • The Wild Cats: Daffy is recruited to coach the school water polo team, the Bobcats. (Which makes very little sense as the name of a water polo team.)
