Recap / The Looney Tunes Show S1 E15 "Bugs & Daffy Get a Job"

Go To

The fifteenth episode of the first season of The Looney Tunes Show.

Bugs starts working at Porky's accounting firm, and shows Porky that work can be fun. Meanwhile, Daffy gets a "beak job".

This episode features the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote short, "Heartbreak Bridge".

This episode provides examples of:

  • Bait-and-Switch: Bugs reminds Porky, who is currently working on a model of an airport made out of sticky notes, about those reports that he's supposed to be working on. Porky panics, runs to his cubicle to get those reports... and then proceeds to shred them all so that he can use the shreds as "snow" for his airport.
  • Be Yourself: Tina points out that Daffy's imperfections are what make him him and that she likes that (for the most part).
  • Brutal Honesty: Tina says "Well, it looks like a dog ate your face" in regards to Daffy's "beak job" when the latter states his appearance shouldn't have imperfections.
  • Double-Meaning Title: Bugs and Daffy get very different types of "jobs", with Bugs getting employed at Porky's workplace while Daffy gets plastic surgery.
  • Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male: When Tina punches Daffy, it's played for comedy. If the scene was about a boyfriend punching his girlfriend instead, however, it would be completely different.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Bugs teaches Porky to have fun at work, but this backfires when Porky starts having too much fun at the expense of actually doing his job, getting him fired as a result.
  • Here We Go Again!: Porky commenting on the bump on Daffy's beak, which sends Daffy running from the elevator in a panic.
  • Irony: Tina is confused by Daffy being so obsessed with a minor imperfection on his beak, saying he is nothing but imperfections.
  • Long List: An implied one happens when Daffy tells Bugs that the latter should be pointing out any of Daffy's flaws; Bugs and Daffy are in the upper floors of a tall office building when Bugs begins his list, and when it cuts to the building's garage, he's still rattling things off.
Daffy: Do not patronize me! If there is something wrong with me that I don't know about, then you owe it to me as my best friend to tell me!
Bugs: [as the two walk into an elevator] Alright. You're a narcissist, you're a sociopath, you're probably a psychopath, you're a-
    [elevator door closes]
[cut to the garage, where the elevator door opens]
Bugs: ...you're paranoid, sexist, and you make fun of the elderly.
  • Mood Whiplash: Tina delivers an appropriate Be Yourself lesson and says she likes Daffy for who he is. Daffy responds by accusing her of being jealous and insulting the size of her beak, which prompts Tina to deck him.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Bugs tries to get Porky to have fun at work. He succeeds, but Porky ends up having TOO much fun.
  • Overly Long Gag: Daffy repeatedly encounters people who innocently say "bump" in various contexts (such as metaphorically or describing the sidewalk). Then a random guy points out the bump on Daffy's beak.
  • Sanity Slippage: Porky goes through this.
  • Soul-Crushing Desk Job: Porky absolutely loathes his "soul-sucking" job. He is bored by the routine, hates his cubicle, can't wait for the weekend, and then dreads how he'll have to go back to work on Monday morning. He ends up taking to Bugs's efforts to make work fun and is fine with getting fired in the end.
  • Spit Take: Tina's reaction to Daffy's "beak job".
  • Talk to the Fist: Tina does this as a not-so-gentle way to tell Daffy that he is being blind to his repulsive new look.
  • You're Just Jealous: Daffy believes Tina was only criticizing his "beak job" because she was being jelly. He couldn't have been more wrong.
