Recap / The Lion Guard S 2 E 28 The Fall Of Mizimu Grove

Go To

With the Pride Lands on edge, Timon and Pumbaa attempt to put on a show to lift everyone’s spirits at the same time that Scar orders an attack on Mizimu Grove.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Continuity Nod: Scar mocks Simba for being “always so naive”, a very clear reference to when he tricked the latter into believing he was responsible for Mufasa’s death. Simba’s reaction confirms that this was not lost on him.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Kion has one when he sees the the fire didn't destroy Makini's sapling, which allows him to convince the other Pridelanders that the Pridelands can be saved.
  • Heroic BSoD: Kion falls into one after Mizimu Grove is destroyed by Scar and the Pridelanders decide to leave, as he believes he's not fit for helping them.
  • Internal Reveal: During the attack, Scar publicly reveals himself to the Pride Landers and officially announced his plans to conquer the kingdom.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": The Pride Landers all have this reaction after Scar reveals himself to them for the first time.
  • Rousing Speech: Kion gives one to the Pridelanders after her discovers that Makini’s sapling had survived the fire, telling them that if the sapling can be saved, so can the rest of the Pridelands.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After Mizimu Grove falls, most of the Pride Landers seriously consider just leaving to find a new home, especially since they are now aware of Scar’s return. They are eventually convinced to stay.
  • Shocking Defeat Legacy: Narrowly averted, despite Scar’s attempt to invoke this trope. Scar’s destruction of Mizimu Grove was not just an addition to his conquered territory, but was also a psychological attack on the morale of the Pride Lands. Destroying sacred grounds often used to foster community amongst the animals on a revered holiday was a message that not even the most sacred lands of the kingdom are safe from Scar’s conquest. Furthermore, the successful attack undermined the animals’ faith in not just the Lion Guard, but their own king, who was completely caught off guard. Scar’s biding his time was well worth it, since he nearly convinces most of the populace to flee and surrender to his army.
  • Wham Episode: Scar has dealt the Lion Guard and the Pride Lands as a whole a serious blow in successfully destroying the hallowed site of Mizimu Grove, and nearly caused most of the animals to flee.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: The Pridelands call Kion and Simba out for keeping Scar's return a secret, asking how they're supposed to defend the Pridelands from Scar.
