Recap / The Librarians S 1 E 04 And Santas Midnight Run

Go To

Santa's been kidnapped. And if Santa doesn't do his Santa thing, humanity is doomed.

Tropes:

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Ezekiel wishes to know what it's like to be the good guy for once; he does not enjoy it when it happens.
  • Crash Course Landing: Baird and Stone have to figure out how to land the cargo plane.
Baird: You want to help me out?
    Stone: Yeah. How?
Baird: Google "How to lower landing gear."
  • First-Name Basis: Jenkins calls Mrs. Claus "Gretchen."
  • Flat-Earth Atheist: Baird doesn't much care for the Santa thing. But mostly because she's seen too much.
  • Freudian Slip: Jenkins says of Dulaque that it takes much more than a fall from an airplane to kill them, er, him.
  • The Hat Makes the Man: Santa's hat imbues its wearer with "the spirit of Christmas," inspiring them to grant the Christmas wishes of others in an appropriately Santa-like fashion. Baird and the LITs exploit the effect late in the episode, tricking Dulaque into putting the hat on so that they can manipulate him with it. There are limits to how far it will force someone to act against their wishes, however, as Cassandra discovers when she tries asking for a little too much; Dulaque simply yanks the hat off at that point.
  • Last-Name Basis: Baird has, so far, only been referred to by her rank or her last name. Turns out one of the reasons she hates Christmas is because she was named Eve for having been born at the stroke of midnight on Christmas Eve.
  • Not Using the "Z" Word: Baird refuses to call Santa "Santa." She settles on "Nick."
  • A Rare Sentence:
Eve: Number 943 in things I thought I'd never say, but I'm saying in this job... okay, Santa, where did you park your sleigh?
  • Saving Christmas: The entire plot is based around making sure Santa's able to be Santa at the appropriate time.
  • Super-Toughness: Dulaque has no qualms about falling out of a plane. Jenkins flat-out says that it's not nearly enough to kill him.
  • Surprise Party: Baird gets a surprise birthday party at the very end of the episode.
  • Take My Hand!: Baird grabs Dulaque as he falls out of the plane. He lets himself fall rather than give anything away.
  • Third-Person Person: Santa always refers to Santa as Santa. Baird finds it annoying.
