Recap / The Interns S 5 E 17

Go To

Lobanov's patient (a director) needs an actor for his latest work, pronto, and Semyon agrees to be one (for reward, of course); unknowingly to him, that patient is a porn director. Bykov learns about this, but decides that it would be funnier to not warn Semyon, and instead mock him later.

Phil comes to work with hangover and strong alcoholic smell, and Kupitman agrees to hide him from Bykov... only to use him as a drink buddy. This leads to Phil becoming drunk again and starting talking about his feelings to Jess. Kupitman leaves him alone for a night... and Phil drink all of his cognac stock (well, not by himself, he was "helped" by the orderlies). Next day, Bykov finds out, and now Kupitman must nurse Phil until he returns to working condition.

Gleb has a chance for a threesome with two girls... but he is no longer as rich as before, and if they learn about it, it may disappoint them. He must find a way to deal with this, and soon. Who may lean him money? Certainly not Kupitman (he would demand to be invited), nor Lyuba (she's just as empty as them right now), nor Phil (he insist to maintain a stable budget), and nor Varya (besides her being also low on money, it would be just idiotic to ask Gleb's ex for money for his new girls!). Which means... there's no one to ask but Bykov. Bykov, of course, refuses him (not missing an opportunity to mock him in the process), but Gleb now has an idea, taken from Bykov's taunts, how to deal with the situation: organise a "retro-style" USSR-themed party (cheap, yet creative)! This actually works great... until they all (except Semyon, who was present, but leaved early) receives an alcohol poisoning from cheap counterfeit alcohol.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Can't Hold His Liquor: It doesn't take long for Phil to become drunk again once Kupitman offers him to drink together, and start talking about Jessica; while Kupitman is still sober.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: When Jessica once again hurt his feelings, Phil decided to get wasted. Fortunately, Kupitman finds him before Bykov does, and covers for him — on condition that Phil would drink with him. Later, when Jess mocks him again, Phil deals with this by drinking (with the "help" of orderlies) all of Kupitman's cognac. Kupitman doesn't react well.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: Gleb, failing to find money, tries to organise a party "USSR-style", to impress the girls at least with his creativity. Then all three ends up in the hospital with poisoning from cheap counterfeit alcohol.
  • Insistent Terminology: It's not porn, it's "adult films"!
  • It's Not Porn, It's Art: Lobanov's patient insists that his works are "adult films", not porn, to look more respectable. It fools no one.
  • Kick the Dog: If it was not apparent earlier, Jessica (Phil's ex) makes it clear now that she's utter bitch:
    • She uploaded her photos with her new boyfriend, which she took at her and Phil's special place, being perfectly aware that Phil would see them.
    • Later, she writes in her Twitter that she had her first orgasm that night. There's no reason to mention that at all unless you do it purposely to mock your ex who would see it.
  • Troll: When Bykov learns that Lobanov would take part in a porn (pardon, adult) film, but is not yet aware what kind of movie it is, he decides to keep it secret, and let Semyon find out by himself. Just for fun. He even tells the other people, so they can mock him once he later appears at the hospital.
