Recap / The Interns S 2 E 6

Go To

Bykov plays a cruel joke on Kupitman, and now Ivan Natanovich wants revenge, for which he cooperates with Kisegach. He decides to exploit Bykov's main weakness: video games; he takes his gaming console "hostage" until Bykov agrees to his demands. Kupitman's part works perfectly, but Kisegach is not so lucky: Bykov decides to just sit in her office (right on the table), and would not leave until he gets what he wants. Unaware that Bykov didn't receive any of his letters, Kupitman proceeds to cut console into pieces.

Lobanov conflicts with a technician who maintains the vending machine which previously "stole" Semyon's money without providing food in return. Lobanov tries to take it by himself, but gets his hand stuck inside. Technician, whom he previously insulted, does release him, but only when he pays him — a much higher sum than what Semyon had lost before.

Gleb and Varya must work together, but turns out that their patient is Gleb's ex-girlfriend, with whom he has... not exactly good relationship. To avoid her, and, more importantly, hide the truth from Varya, he cooperates with Levin. But while Gleb was busy working on his plan, Varya already learned that the patient is a single mother... with three years-old son. Gleb hires Levin to learn more, suspecting that the son may be his, but Levin does this so badly that he gets mistaken for a pedophile. When Levin gets caught with the patient's son, Gleb is forced to finally admit the truth; he also says that if it's indeed his son, he's ready to take responsibility for him. But the patient reveals that Gleb isn't the father (though she's open if he decides to help anyway). Despite Gleb's fears, Varya takes the revelation well: no matter what mistakes the past-Gleb did, the present-Gleb is ready to take responsibility for them, and that is what really matters.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Blackmail: If Bykov would not do as Kupitman wants, his gaming console would be "killed". Unknowingly for Kupitman, Bykov never received any of Kupitman's letters, which results in Kupitman proceeding with the "execution".
  • Dark Secret: Gleb has a past with his patient, and, due to details about their breakup (he just escaped, giving her the number of the psychological help centre "Broken Hearts" instead of his own), he would rather avoid treating her, or let Varya learn anything about their past relationship. Levin feels extreme disgust, and only agrees to help to protect Varya.
  • Disappeared Dad: Gleb learns that his ex-girlfriend has a son, and fears that he may be his. He hires Levin to learn details about this kid, and quickly gets convinced that the son indeed his. Except, in the end he learns that this is just a coincidence, and he's not a father (albeit if he wants to become one, he can).
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Kupitman is not amused by Bykov's joke ("joke" involves a fake announcement about Kupitman dying from alcohol-caused illness). Now, he wants revenge.
  • Evil Laugh: Kupitman laughs rather maniacally before proceeding to the final stage of his revenge on Bykov.
  • Finger in the Mail: Kupitman's revenge plan involves sending Bykov the hostage piece by piece; since "hostage" is not a human, but rather a gaming console, Kupitman sends him detached details instead.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Discussed. Four years ago, Gleb had broke his then-girlfriend's heart by leaving her without a word and giving her a psychological help centre "Broken Hearts" number instead of his own, to cut all ties. Today, Gleb is ready to apologise and accept responsibility for her son (whom he mistakingly believes to be his). Varya considers the whole situation to be Gleb changing for the best, and has no ill thoughts about Gleb not telling her before, understanding that he had to make sure.
  • Humiliation Conga: Lobanov fails to receive his money (or his food) back, his hand gets stuck in the vending machine, he gets recorded on a camera, and he must pay much bigger sum to be freed... by the same technician whom he insulted earlier.
  • Mistaken for Pedophile: Levin's attempts to learn details about the patient's son (Gleb wants to be sure if this kid is his or not) are so clumsy and ill-thought, him being assumed being a pedophile was unavoidable. Especially since his next step is to obtain the kid's photo. He later gets caught near that same kid, despite kid's mother previously telling Levin to stay away from her and her son. He only avoids troubles due to Gleb and Varya explaining the situation... though the mother still asks him to keep away, just in case.
  • Oh, Crap!: Gleb panics when he realises that his patient is his ex-girlfriend, with whom he broke up in rather ugly way. Then he learns that she is now a single mother with three years-old son, and realises that the boy can possibly be his.
  • Shadow Discretion Shot: When Kupitman brutally destroys Bykov's gaming console, we can only see the shadows.
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: Kisegach's part in Kupitman's plan involves her delaying Bykov in her office. Unfortunately, when the time comes, Bykov refuses to leave. Or even get down from her table.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: When Gleb tells Levin why he needs to interchange patients, Levin tells him that this was extremely vile; the sole reason why he agrees to help at all is to protect Varya from this. One patient overhears their discussion, and outright calls Gleb a jerk.
