Air-Vent Passageway: Played with but averted; Katie suggests to demi-Hulk!David that he remove the grating covering an air vent to escape the underground government research facility they're trapped in, but they don't get the chance to actually try it before they're caught. Possibly double-subverted when they wind up escaping through a large ventilation shaft to the surface anyway.
Bee Afraid: At the meteor site, David ends up getting stung by a swarm of bees. This, naturally, causes him to Hulk out.
Hulk Speak: The way the Demi-Hulk speaks is the closest the series comes to following this trope. Of course, he still uses full sentences and proper pronouns, but now uses shorter and simpler words (like calling a meteor "a rock from the sky").
Interrupted Cooldown Hug: Jack genuinely tries to reason with the partially transformed David to achieve a peaceful solution, but some guys from the facility don't share his good intentions and opt for a violent approach, ruining Jack's efforts.
The Load: Similar to her character in Death in the Family, Laurie Prange appears again here as the blind girl Katie, where she plays a similar role. It's eventually subverted, as she ends up acting as the Demi-Hulk's brain while he acts as her eyes and hands.
Partial Transformation: David, as a result of being too close to a meteor emitting gamma radiation, gets stuck halfway between himself and the Hulk.
Shapeshifter Mode Lock: Happens in a strange way here; David ends up being stuck halfway between himself and the Hulk due to being too close to a radioactive meteorite. As a result, David retains his consciousness and some of his intelligence, but has difficulty concentrating and focusing, and also possessed a fair portion of the Hulk's strength. Later, he ends up getting stuck fully as the Hulk after being captured and imprisoned by the military; his futile attempts to break free of his cell kept him pissed off enough to stay green.
