"Super Zero"

Original Air Date: October 1, 2004

After watching a TV show, starring Captain Heifer and his Heifer Farms Brand Yogurt, Billy asks Grim to turn him into a superhero with the power of squeaking and throwing yogurt from his armpits. With his wish granted, Billy goes to outer space to fight the Evil Empire, but the planet he visits is mostly uninhabited except for a little alien whom Billy eventually notices and names Winston. Despite being free of Billy, Grim still has to deal with Billy's equally dumb father, Harold. After Billy fills the alien planet with yogurt, he returns home to be "normal".

"Super Zero" contains examples of…

  • Arc Words: "Forever", and at the end, "normal".
  • Butt-Monkey: "Winston", a cute little alien critter who tries to get Billy's attention throughout the entire episode.
  • Dramatic Irony: The viewer can clearly see the cute little alien while Billy can't.
  • Dull Surprise: When Billy's dad comes looking for his son to assist him in building a toolshed, Grim happily states that Billy flew off into space - possibly forever. Billy's dad reacts neutral to the possibility his son could be gone forever, and only gets curious over now who's going to help him build the shed.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: It's when Grim talks about how Billy would have to travel deep into space that he realizes this is a perfect way to get rid of him for many years, if not forever.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite his obvious stupidity, Harold actually seems to be a decent carpenter, as he manages to build an impressive looking shed that comes with cable TV and a waterbed.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Billy's father, Harold, is just as repulsive and stupid as Billy is, to the point Grim considers them the same person.
  • Made a Slave: Wanting Billy to go away FOREVER, Grim eagerly grants Billy's wish to become a genuine superhero and so Billy departs for space. Then, Harold enslaves Grim to build his toolshed.
  • No Antagonist: Billy is devastated to realize that there is no evil empire for him to destroy. At least until he's convinced that the evil empire is really full of microscopic amoeba-like creatures. Either way, they do seem to like yogurt.
    • Interestingly, the online game based on this episode does have enemies for Billy to blast with yogurt.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Winston.
  • What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?: Aside from flight and super strength, Billy's main superpower is the ability to shoot a specific brand of strawberry yogurt out of his armpits.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: The shed that Grim was roped into helping Harold build is completed, and it's actually quite lavish. Grim goes inside to check it out, only for Billy to pick that exact spot to land on, crushing it and Grim in the process.

"Sickly Sweet"

Original Air Date: October 1, 2004

Billy was messing around with Grim's trunk again, reading his diary and taking stuff from the pockets of Grim's robe. Grim tells Billy that he owns terrible cursed objects such as the Mask of the Beast inside his robe. If they wear the mask, they will become a monster if they don't be polite. Sick of Mandy's bossy and domineering attitude, Grim and Billy place The Mask of the Beast on her face. When Mandy is informed that she must be 'friendly', 'kind' and 'courteous' to everyone, or else the mask won't come off, what chance does she have to be returned to normal...

Sickly Sweet contains examples of…

  • Artifact of Doom: The Mask of the Beast!
  • Bittersweet Ending: For both parties. Mandy turns into a full blown monster, and Grim and Billy get beat up by her non-stop, but both sides admit it's worth it.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Grim and Billy try milking as much servitude out of Mandy as possible such as baking them cookies and giving them a sponge bath. Also doubles as Didn't Think This Through because the danger and flaw in their plan is that Mandy grows more powerful as long as she wears the mask.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Grim and Billy putting the mask on Mandy serves as payback for her insolence and foul temper.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: At the beginning of the episode, Grim places magic gauntlets on Billy's arms, which causes them to be torn out of his arm sockets and beats him senseless with them for reaching into the pockets of his robe for some chocolate.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: While Mandy is willing to humiliate herself by saying "Please" and making cookies for Grim and Billy, she completely snaps when they try to get her to smile, while giving them a sponge bath.
Mandy: Well, a girl's gotta have her principles.
  • Evil Mask: Again, the Mask of the Beast!
  • Fire-Breathing Weapon: The wearer of the mask gains fire breath.
  • Foreshadowing: Before putting the Mask on Mandy, Grim says he and Billy were going to pay dearly for it. Sure enough, it all ends in the vicious beatdown they were apparently anticipating.
  • Gagging on Your Words: Mandy is such a Jerkass that just trying to say "Please" is physically difficult for her.
  • Humiliation Conga: A rare occurrence where Billy and Grim manage to get the best of Mandy. At least until they tell her to smile.
  • I'll Kill You!: Mandy yells this out loud at Billy and Grim when she is wearing the mask.
  • Impossible Task: Mandy has to be "courteous, kind, and friendly" to get the mask to come off, or else she'll be turned into a monstrous beast. What makes this impossible is that Mandy is the exact opposite of all of that, to the extent it takes extreme physical effort on her part just to say "Please," and every time she does something nice and manages to slightly revert her transformation, she ends up blowing her stack on Billy and Grim and ending up right back where she started.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Both ends. Mandy might’ve been turned into a monster, but no one’s denying it’s undeserved after Mandy has verbally and physically abused just about everyone while Billy and Grim go way too far by taking advantage of Mandy’s Hair-Trigger Temper, causing them both to have their asses literally kicked in the end.
  • Made a Slave: Mandy gets turned into a slave to Grim and Billy until she can earn back her human body and not turn into an ugly beast.
  • Man-Eating Plant: The evil flower was seen digesting Billy's nose.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: Mandy’s beast form seems to have both reptilian and donkey-like features.
  • Negative Continuity: Mandy’s been turned into a beast, but she’s back to human next episode.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: Terrible... Cursed... Objects!
  • Rocket Punch: Grim owns a pair of cursed gauntlets that punch Billy with his own hands when he wears them.
  • Shout-Out: To The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, The Powerpuff Girls ,Codename: Kids Next Door and Courage the Cowardly Dog.
  • Unusual Ears: Mandy gains donkey ears from the mask.
  • Worth It: Even though Mandy delivers a brutal beatdown on Grim and Billy, they don’t regret it. Grim just hopes that the two of them won’t have to sit down for a couple of weeks.
