Reddick vs. Boseman

A pastor who runs a halfway house for recovering addicts needs help evicting a guy who doesn't take his recovery seriously. The guy responds by accusing the pastor of sexual misconduct. Marissa and Jay find evidence that he is lying on the two men's fitness bracelets.

Lucca goes to a party with Colin, where Colin's parents do their utmost to convince her they're not racist and are thrilled that their son is dating a black woman. One of Colin's friends tells Lucca that Colin is like that also, he just doesn't try to convince anyone. She dumps him.

Tropes

  • "Blackmail" Is Such an Ugly Word: Kovac invokes this trope when he says he'll blackmail Diane, "but won't be calling it blackmail". He then claims it was a joke.
  • Broken Pedestal: Referenced by Adrian when he says he no longer believes his heroes have anything but feet of clay.
  • Driven to Suicide: Henry Rindell tries to hang himself. He loses his balance when reaching for the noose, falls ten feet, and injures him back instead.
  • False Rape Accusation: Paul Johnson claims that pastor Jeremiah demands sex to not evict him. This is later disproven using the plaintiff's and the defendant's fitness trackers.
  • Good Samaritan: Pastor Jeremiah claims he was being this when he let Paul live in his apartment complex.
  • Hidden Wire: Kovac leaves his phone on "record" for his talks with other lawyers. He's the one who says legally questionable things.
  • The Idealist: Carl Reddick thinks his firm shouldn't do business with companies whose staff consists of as little as two percent black employees.
  • Mistaken for Racist: Ryan tells Lucca that Collin's only dating her because she's a "hot black attorney". She believes him.
  • Pretty Fly for a White Guy: Both Collin's parents try to pass themselves off as very "in" with African-American culture when talking to Lucca.
  • Token White: Kovac calls Diane the token white lawyer.
