Stoppable: Requiem for an Airdate

Diane brings in Chumhum and Neil Gross to the firm, and has her capital contribution come from them. Mike Kresteva shows up and threatens the firm, causing Lucca to suggest they employ the most creative lawyer she knows from her days working with Alicia Florrick: Elsbeth Tascioni.

Elsbeth tries to talk to Kresteva, but when he rejects this she goes and befriends his wife instead, inspired by his threats. Kurt gives a talk about his job analyizing ballistics to the police department.

Tropes

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Elsbeth subverts this by interrupting her own legal strategizing with questions about Maia's lipstick, without losing her thread.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Lucca introduces Boseman to Elsbeth Tascioni, who embodies this trope.
  • Call-Back:
    • Adrian brings up that Julius admitted to voting for Trump.
    • Maia tells Yesha about the Schtup list.
    • Lucca opens up about Alicia.
    • Neil Gross from the original series wants to hire the firm.
  • Central Theme: Are fake news a matter of free speech?
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Diane asks Kurt if he drove himself to her apartment before offering him wine, which she needs if she's going to sit up an help him rewrite his speech.
  • Ivy League for Everyone: The client of the week and his colleague argue about whether Yale or Princeton kicks more butt.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Elsbeth uses this on Kresteva. He is skeptical, so she tries it on his wife instead.
  • Pocket Dial: Kurt claims Diane called him. She apologizes and says her phone does stuff on its own.
  • Pretty Fly for a White Guy: Reddick & Boseman need a lawyer, and interview one who does this trope. He weirds everyone out.
  • Pun: Collin claims to be a Diet Coke addict.
  • Rhetorical Question Blunder: Subverted by Adrian when Elsbeth asks what it is he doesn't know. He asks if he's supposed to answer that. She tells him that she was basically asking herself out loud.

  • Sex with the Ex: Diane and Kurt spend the night together.
