One of the new residents under Shaun's supervision ends up making a decision with tragic consequences.
- Amnesiac Lover: Ellie ends up losing her memories of the time she had an affair with Zane.
- Downer Ending: Patient of the Week Carlo dies because of a mistake made by Asher, much to the remorse of him and Shaun, who also feels guilty for being his supervisor and for not having realized his mistake.
- Easy Amnesia: Patient of the Week Ellie gets has a swelling on her head that conveniently gives her bouts of amnesia, making the Love Triangle situation she's in even more complicated, as the time period of memory she loses ends up being the entire time she had an affair.
- Escalating War: Fresh new roommates Morgan and Parker get into a petty cycle of crossing each other boundaries and snooping on each other's stuff.
- Emasculated Cuckold: Brendan is a mix of humiliation and anger upon finding out about his wife's infidelity, especially since the boyfriend is still in the hospital.
- Face Death with Dignity: Even after discovering that he will die because of a medical error, the patient accepts his fate with dignity, without blaming the doctor or showing anger.
- Foreshadowing: Shaun makes a list of the things that Lea likes, one of which is camping. In the eighteenth episode "Forgive or Forget", Shaun decides to take Lea camping in an attempt to distract her from the pain of losing their unborn child.
- Gay Best Friend: Parker accuses Morgan of keeping a portrait of her and an ex, but it turns out it's from her and her old gay best friend.
- Hypocrite: Morgan mocks Parker for not moving on from his ex-wife, but Parker soon finds out she not only also keeps things from her exes, but she's also sleeping with one of them from time to time.
- Naked People Are Funny: Parker barging in on Parker's bedroom only to discover she Sleeps in the Nude is played for laughs, with her obvious growing distress at his precense and covering herself with a Modesty Bedsheet while Parker is amused by the situation.
- "No Peeking!" Request: After Parker barges into Morgan's bedroom in the morning while she Sleeps in the Nude to get back at her, she gets him to leave when she says she needs to get up and go to the bathroom and he acquiences to her request to leave.
- Note to Self: Ellie recorded a message to herself before she made the surgery that cause her to lose some of her memory.
- Patient of the Week:
- Carlo Porter (Carlos Lacamara), a friendly old man who came to the hospital with back pain and was misdiagnosed by Asher and ends up dying as a result.
- Ellie Lewis (Lindsey Kraft), a woman with swelling on her hippocampus that threatens to cause her brain damage, but the doctors are frozen on her case because it's her husband Brendan Lewis (Ryan Kennedy) who can legally decide her treatment, and he still resents her for leaving him for her current boyfriend Zane (Daniel Di Tomasso).
- Sex with the Ex: Morgan has a Friends with Benefits relationship with one of her exes. When Parker attempts to mock her for it like she mocked him for not moving on from his ex-wife, she claims she's still at least getting something from her ex (sex), while his moping is just pathetic.
- Tragic Keepsake: Downplayed. Morgan discovers Parker keeps a lot of mementos from his past relationships, and teases him relentlessly about it. Parker gets back at by her by snooping on her stuff to find out she keeps some stuff from exes too.
