Recap / The Golden Girls S 06 E 13 The Bloom Is Off The Rose

Go To

Miles (Harold Gould) feels he is competing with Rose's late husband; Blanche is mistreated by an old flame (Mitchell Ryan).

Tropes:

  • Clueless Aesop: Blanche gets involved with a verbally abusive man, and Dorothy explains how damaging verbal abuse can be. But the episode ignores that the show has Dorothy constantly put down by Sophia, which is usually played for laughs.
  • Museum of Boredom: Miles takes Rose to a thimble museum and mentions wanting to take her to a place called "Zipper Town" in the future. However, Rose is decidedly not impressed with either choice.
Dorothy: You mean to tell me you actually had a good time at a thimble museum?
Miles: It was sew-sew. (starts laughing)
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Dorothy delivers one of these to Rex after he demands she get Blanche to hurry up for their date:
Rex: Look, would you just go tell Blanche to hurry up? I've gotta teach this woman what being on time means!
Dorothy: Wait a minute, I don't want you teaching her anything!
Rex: You know, you're starting to get on my nerves-
Dorothy: Good, because you're already on mine! I don't like the way you're treating Blanche. Under all that make-up and sexy talk, there's a little girl there, and for some reason or another she's letting you take advantage of her. I can't stop her from seeing you, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna hurry her up!
Rex: Who do you think you are?!
    Dorothy: A friend!
  • Very Special Episode: Blanche struggles to deal with her emotionally abusive boyfriend, whom she only dumps after he hurts Dorothy.
