In this Bottle Episode / Flashback Episode, the four women go to a therapist to sort out their various differences.

Related Tropes:

  • An Aesop: Lampshaded by Sophia: "Just because you have some rough times doesn't mean you throw in the towel. You go on living. And eating."
  • Everyone Has Standards: Either this or Hypocritical Humor. In the story about Rose accidentally putting Dorothy's want ad to do odd jobs in the personals section of a newspaper, one of her suitors, who only goes by the name "Toto", overhears another ad signed by someone named "Doug" who he warns is a "sick man".
  • No Sympathy: Blanche in both Dorothy's and Sophia's stories:
    • Dorothy tells the therapist about a time she had planned a double date for the two of them that she tried to back out of because Dorothy had the flu. Blanche couldn't care less, even propping her up with pillows after she passed out from too many of Sophia's hot toddy drinks.
    • Sophia spoke about how both she and Rose kept bothering Dorothy, who was trying to study for an exam that would allow her to earn more money, over frivolous things. They only stopped when Sophia put her foot down.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Dorothy mistakenly believes that a priest is one of the men who answered her ad, only to learn that Sophia was donating canned goods for the needy. She then earnestly apologizes and claims that she will say "Hail Marys" until Madonna has a hit movie, which even the father nods in acknowledgment to.
  • Take That!:
    • When Blanche claims that her hair is still its natural hue, Dorothy quips back, "Sure, Blanche; yours and Lucy's!"note
    • When talking about little annoyances that the girls have in each other, Sophia tells Blanche that she can't stand "that phony Southern accent of yours. What is this, Designing Women?"
