A Plot: After a double-date watching James Bond at the theater, Joanne admits she thought Roger Moore was cute, so Barry convinces Adam to make him the star of a homemade spy movie. However, he's dismayed when Joanne thinks his performance is less "sexy" and more "hilarious".

B Plot: When Formica Mike argues with his wife and ends up sleeping at the mattress store, Beverly offers to let him stay at their house, but his shattered views on relationships interferes with Erica's attempts to write her marriage vows. Additionally, Beverly's plan to scare Mike back to his wife by having him date the scary and abusive Jane Bales ends up backfiring.

  • Awful Wedded Life: Mike and Fran have one, as Fran admits to Beverly; apparently, ever since their kids left the house, the seams have been starting to show and this isn't the first time she's kicked him out of the house.
  • Character Shilling: Adam encourages Joanne to do this to Barry when her comments hurt his feelings, but she quickly gets tired of his childish, constant need for respect and tells him off.
  • Composite Character: In Barry's script, Dave Kim's role is supposed to be a combination of Q and Moneypenny.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Also in Barry's script, Adam's character dies in the first scene by getting pumped full of lead bullets, and then getting pulled apart by giant magnets. Barry isn't aware that lead isn't magnetic.
  • Gold Digger: When Jane ends up in a relationship with Mike, one of the main things she loves about him is that "he's ridiculously loaded".
  • The Name Is Bond, James Bond: Barry says this line as part of pretending to be Bond.
  • Non-Residential Residence: Bev finds Mike sleeping in the furniture store after fighting with Fran.
  • Operation: Jealousy: An inverted example, followed by a straight example, both of which end up subverted. Beverly tries to hook Mike up with Jane in an attempt to make Mike realize how good his wife Fran is in comparison. Unfortunately, Mike and Jane end up hitting it off, so Beverly tries to set Fran up with Coach Nick Mellor to make Mike jealous...but they also hit it off.
  • Plot Parallel: As Beverly's meddling accidentally splits Mike and Fran into dating different people, she starts worrying that her own marriage will one day become an Awful Wedded Life as well. However, her confidence is rebuilt when Erica finishes her marriage vows and shares them with her, adding that Murray provided some valuable insight for them.
  • Rule of Three: Adam's guide to Character Shilling Barry consists of three P's: Praising him for the smallest of accomplishments, letting him demonstrate athletic Power, and Publicly humiliating yourself so Barry feels better in comparison.
  • Second Love: By the end of Beverly's plot, Mike and Fran are still enjoying their Operation: Jealousy partners more than they did each other.
  • Title Drop: The episode's title is also the title of the James Bond-ish script that Barry wants Adam to help him with.
  • Was It All a Lie?: After learning how Adam advised Joanne to partake in Character Shilling to avoid hurting his feelings, Barry confronts his other friends about how they've been dealing with his over-sensitivity and insecurity. After learning that all of his friends and family have been lying to placate him, he decides that he'd prefer honesty from now on.
