Recap / The Ghost And Molly Mc Gee S 1 E 9 Not So Honest Abe

Go To

Original air date: 10/6/2021 note

Production code: 105a

Special Guest Star: Kelsey Grammer as Abraham Lincoln
Molly has to do a history project on Abraham Lincoln, and Scratch convinces her he knows Lincoln's ghost personally.

Tropes:

  • Aesop Amnesia: When the Science Fair begins at the end of the episode, Molly asks Scratch if he knows Albert Einstein. Scratch replies in the affirmative, proudly declaring that he's "learned nothing."
  • Bait-and-Switch: Twice in a row. Seeing that Molly's bombing her Lincoln presentation, Scratch worriedly remarks to himself that he can't just sit and watch...then cheerfully decides he needs a pizza. Then it turns out, rather than wanting to eat the pizza while he watches Molly embarrass herself, it's part of a plan to get into the club where Lincoln is so he can ask for help.
  • Character Development: Scratch, under a lot of protest, admits that he cares about Molly. Lincoln praises him.
  • Death Glare: Lincoln's "truth stare".
  • Exact Words: Scratch said he saw Lincoln, which he did, randomly in line at the club they never let him into. However, Molly's refusal to believe him leads him to double down on his claim that they know each other rather than simply running into each other by chance.
  • Face Palm: Lincoln does this when Scratch claims to know Einstein.
  • Here We Go Again!: Scratch causes a lot of problems in the episode by claiming to know Abraham Lincoln. At the end of the episode, he lies to Molly again about knowing Albert Einstein.
  • Oh, Crap!: After Scratch says he'd like to see how overboard her own history project is, Molly realizes that she's been too busy helping her classmates to work on her own project about Abraham Lincoln.
  • Pie in the Face: After his attempt to get into Haughty Haunts by delivering a pizza fails, Scratch just shoves the pizza in the bouncer's face.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Subtly invoked by Scratch, who tries to get an audience with Lincoln — a former state senator and Congressional representative of Illinois — with a Chicago deep-dish. It quickly gets destroyed, and Abe's actual taste in pizza remains a mystery.
