Go To

Original air date: 11/27/2021

Production code: 111a

A town-wide blackout on the last night of Hanukkah drives the people of Brighton to the last source of light in town: Libby's mother's book shop.

Tropes:

  • The Alleged Car: Sharon considers it a miracle that her family's van still works.
  • Balloon Belly: Scratch after eating all the latkes in the bookstore.
  • Big Blackout: One big enough to leave all of Brighton in the dark, except for Libby's mother's book shop.
  • Bottle Episode: The entire episode is set at the Stein-Torres' library.
  • Disney Acid Sequence: After tasting Mrs. Stein's cooking, Scratch gets a big, colorful musical number about his love of fried food.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Mrs. Stein only has enough gasoline to run the generator for one hour, but it somehow lasts for eight. The similarity between this and the Hanukkah story is pointed out by Libby.
  • Gesundheit: When Libby corrects Scratch on what the "jelly donuts" are.
    Libby: Sufganiyot.
    Scratch: Gesundheit.
  • Hanukkah Episode: Of course.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: None of the McGees can come up with one of the acceptable spellings of Hanukkah.
  • Noodle Incident: When participating in Libby's "miracle box" tradition, Darryl's miracle is that he didn't get caught for some unspecified prank not even his family knew about.
  • No Swastikas: Libby's great-grandparents left their homes for America in the midst of a violent attack. The attack is not named, nor are the perpetrators, but it is heavily implied to be Kristallnacht (their escape is framed through the actual broken glass of a window).
  • Ode to Food: Scratch sings a song about fried foods.
  • Staggered Zoom: After Scratch mentions the turtles' beady, reptilian eyes are looking into his soul, the camera ominously zooms into them.
  • Tempting Fate: Libby points out that the generator has lasted for eight whole hours on only enough gas for one hour, and calls it a Hanukkah miracle. At that moment, the generator gives out, and she blames herself for saying it out loud. Luckily, the power is restored shorty thereafter.
  • Wingding Eyes: Scratch gets multicolored swirly eyes near the end of his number.
  • Worthless Yellow Rocks: Scratch thought the gelt was actual gold coins, rather than the far more valuable (to him) chocolate coins.
