Recap / The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air S 1 E 10 Kiss My Butler

Go To

Geoffrey gets the day off on his birthday, and plans to spend it watching PBS. Will, however, has plans to get him to spend time with a woman.

This episode provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Age-Gap Romance: Geoffrey and Helen Carter. Downplayed as Helen expected Geoffrey to be even older. Doesn't last long as Geoffrey decides Helen would be a better fit for Will.
  • An Aesop: Don't assume that someone is incapable of doing something just because they've never shown the inclination to do it before.
  • British Stuffiness: Geoffrey would much rather sit back and watch Gilbert and Sullivan on TV than go out partying or look for women.
  • Camp Straight: Geoffrey's behavior and plans early in the episode makes Will wonder if it's proper to find a woman for him, but Geoffrey assures him that he is indeed attracted to the opposite sex.
  • Getting the Boot: Happens to Jazz as per Running Gag, then it happens to Will at the club Jazz works at.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Geoffrey and Helen unexpectedly hit it off at the club, but Will gets a thing for Helen in the process, causing a Love Triangle to form.
  • Hidden Depths: Geoffrey proves to be an excellent dancer.
  • Murder the Hypotenuse: Will initially isn't inclined to try to steal Helen from Geoffrey due to his past in Philadelphia, where trying to get someone else's girl would usually end up with you being shot.
  • Sweet and Sour Grapes: Will's sudden attempt to break up Geoffrey and Helen initially goes poorly, only for Geoffrey to decide against being with Helen at the end and giving her number to Will.
