  • Call-Back: Carla mentions how Icicle attempted to turn her into an ice Meta and how her and Caitlin's tests at first came up negative, revealing she discovered error.
  • Contrived Coincidence: The clerk at the orphanage says she can't give out any information on Tinya's mother without the okay from someone on the board of directors. • Lured into a Trap: With Frost as the bait, Team Flash tries to do this with the Black Flame. While the first attempt fails, the second one almost works, with Carla amplifying Frost's powers with her own. It only fails due to Frost calling the attempt off when her mother's life is in danger.

  • Psychological Projection: Joe correctly points out that Barry wanting to prevent Frost from putting herself into danger is more about him being worried about Iris.
  • The Reveal: Iris isn't infected with a time virus - she herself is the source of the anomalies.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Sue calls an "Uncle Leroy", who is immediately able to circumvent the no-contact order in place for Tinya and her mother.
  • Title Drop: Carla calls Frost reckless.
  • Walking Wasteland: Iris, who unwillingly dematerializes the inventory in the adoption agency and later Tinya's mother.
  • Wham Line: Carla telling Frost they have the same powers.
  • Wham Shot:
    • The orphanage clerk steps back into the front office after getting some coffee to find everything had disappeared.
    • The Black Flame appears before Caitlin and starts speaking to her in Ronnie's voice!
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Caitlin calls out Frost for recklessly putting herself in danger and Carla for going along with the plan.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Just after Tinya reunited with her mother Renee and they were on the verge of reconciling, Renee ends up disintegrating due to Iris's time sickness.
  • You Are Not Alone: Iris sympathizes with Tinya, telling her about her own difficult relationship with her mother and encouraging her to make amends before she can't anymore and regrets it.
  • You Remind Me of X: Carla tells Frost that she reminds her of Thomas.
