Go To

Barry and Iris come together to try and stop a dangerous force from destroying Central City.

Tropes:

  • 10-Minute Retirement: Boy, that was an incredibly short life sentence, Frost!
  • Accidental Hero: Bashir only meant to save himself from Nora, he didn't even know that he could create an illusion to fool her, which saved Alexa and Iris.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Once Nora has her Heel–Face Turn, she asks the other Forces to lend their energies to Barry to stop the anomalies once and for all.
  • Amazing Technicolor Battlefield: Nora drags the Flash and the other Forces into the Speed Force for the final battle.
  • Artistic License – Law: Probation isn't usually a thing for people sentenced to Life without Parole.
  • Beam-O-War: The Speed Force and Deon engage in a short one during the latter's attempt to kill her.
  • Being Tortured Makes You Evil: The excuse Nora gives for her dark turn is that "being dead" is extremely emotionally painful and agonizing.
  • The Bus Came Back: Chillblaine returns.
  • Call-Back: To the very first episode. When the Forces' uncontrolled power creates a tornado that threatens the city, Barry's move is to run around it in reverse to unwind it.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Chillblaine obviously has a blast as a supervillain.
  • Cliffhanger Copout: Part 1 ended with Nora apparently killing Alexa, Bashir and Iris. Part 2 reveals that the whole thing was an illusion by Bashir with Nora none the wiser.
  • Dark Is Evil: Aside from wearing dark lipstick and black clothes, the Speed Force's eyes also turn black quite a lot throughout the episode.
  • Dating Catwoman: Frost's fight with Chillblaine had this dynamic, with Frost later admitting to herself and Caitlin that she has a crush on him.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: Despite denying being attracted to him, Chillblaine points out how Frost can't help but stare at his sixpack.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: After a pep talk from Joe, Barry and Iris realize that keeping the Forces apart was a mistake - they have to bring them together.
  • Fate Worse than Death: The Speed Force experiencing a future where she is the only Force left ends up being this to her, leading to her Heel–Face Turn.
Speed Force: I'll be the only Force for eons to come, snd I'll be alone. All alone, I can feel it. No… no… Don't let it happen… Please don't let it happen. Please don't let it happen. Please. Don't let it happen…
  • Foreshadowing: Barry, about to have sex with Iris: "I love that Impulse!"
  • Hates Being Alone: The Speed Force is this.
  • Heel–Face Turn: The Speed Force eventually has one, after realizing that she doesn't want to end up alone.
  • Hero of Another Story: While Barry and the other Forces are fighting the Speed Force, Frost was working to recapture as many of the metahuman escapees from Iron Heights as she could, with Chillblaine being one of them.
  • Immediate Sequel: Picks up immediately after the previous episode.
  • It's All My Fault: Joe blames himself for turning in his badge, as he cannot aid his fellow officers now, who have to deal with the crisis.
  • Jump Scare: The lightning hits Cecile out of nowhere.
  • A Man Is Always Eager: When Iris decides she wants to actively try to have kids with Barry, he super-speeds her off to the bedroom.
  • Misfit Mobilization Moment: Around the same time Barry finally convinced Deon to join their cause, Bashir and Alexa returned to STAR Labs, convinced that, to stop Nora, they all have to work together.
  • Movie Superheroes Wear Black: Averted weirdly with Chillblaine, who gets his iconic comic book costume (complete with fur collar) completely out of nowhere and then leaves it open to taunt Frost with his abs.
  • Mythology Gag: Barry trying to stop the Forces' energies from going out of control once again evokes the imagery of what was supposed to be his final fate.
  • Neck Lift: Alexa threatening Iris to get the orb.
  • Not Me This Time: Turns out the Speed Force wasn't creating the storm - the other Forces did, unwittingly.
  • The Nothing After Death: The Speed Force describes her own death is being completely empty.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: While the battle between Team Flash and the Forces was going on, Frost apparently helped catch a dozen metahuman escapees from Iron Heights.
  • Prison Break: The storm damaged Iron Heights, causing a lot of meta-criminals to be back on the streets.
  • Sadistic Choice: Barry is forced to choose between his "children" and his city. Fortunately, he finds a way out of it.
  • Ship Tease: At the end, while Cisco, Kamila, Allegra and Chester are all hanging out together at Jitters, Cisco and Kamila are having a Sickeningly Sweethearts moment that makes the Chester and Allegra a bit uncomfortable. Then the camera briefly focuses on the two of them looking at each other questioningly...
  • Shout-Out:
  • Talking the Monster to Death: Barry's initial attempt of this fails towards the Speed Force, but with the help of the other Forces, Nora eventually comes back to the light.
  • Took a Level in Badass: With all the Forces united, Barry feels that his speed is even greater than before.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are:
    • Allegra snaps Joe out of his self-pity tour, saying that being a cop was not the only thing that made him a great person.
    • Joe himself later gives Barry and Iris some much needed pep talk to guide them towards the right solution regarding Nora.
