Original air date: 11/11/2003 (produced in 2002)

Episode number: 35b

AJ and Timmy fight over whether Alden Bitterroot or Dale Dimm is the true hero of Dimmsdale, since they are building a parade float for Dimmsdale's Founder's Day celebration as part of their elementary school project. Timmy, with his fairies, decides to go back in time to find out once and for all, discovering Bitterroot to be a colonial version of Mr. Crocker who hunts witches and Dimm to be an idiot. But as the story continues, both men are not what they seem to be.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Argument of Contradictions: The episode starts with one between Timmy and AJ over who is the hero of Dimmsdale before Chester stops them.
    Timmy: Dale Dimm!
    AJ: Bitterroot!
    Timmy: Dale Dimm!
    AJ: Bitterroot!
    Timmy: Dale Dimm!
    AJ: Bitterroot!
    Timmy: Dale Dimm!
    AJ: Bitterroot!
  • Artistic License – History: In this episode, Dimmsdale is a Californian town established in the year 1665. In real life, California wasn't settled by the American pioneers until 1769. Additionally, it was under the control of the Spanish rather than the British and wasn't declared a state until September 9, 1850 due to the Gold Rush (which happened from 1848 to 1855).
  • City with No Name: Dimmsdale was originally known as Ye Olde Town With No Name.
  • Identical Grandson: Bitterroot looks exactly like Mr. Crocker in the here-and-now.
  • Meaningful Name: Dale Dimm's surname relates to his "dim" personality. Alden Bitterroot was, you guessed it, bitter.
  • Nobody's That Dumb: When Alden Bitterroot claims that the duck he found was another witch, Dale Dimm almost immediately calls his bluff, unlike the other townsfolk.
    Dale Dimm: Duh, ducky.
Alden Bitterroot: Tis a witch, I say!
  • Stable Time Loop: As it turns out, it was Timmy himself who a) exposed Bitterroot as a witch, and b) came up with the name "Dimmsdale", as it would've been called "Daleburg" if he didn't come up with the name. A Brick Joke implies he also changed when the sandwich was invented.
  • You Are What You Hate: Bitterroot is secretly a witch, despite expressing his hatred of witches. The townspeople don't find out about this until the climax of the episode, where Bitterroot's anger at Timmy causes him to levitate from the ground.
