Go To

Original air date: 6/27/2003 (produced in 2002)

Episode number: 34

It's March 15, a day everyone at Dimmsdale Elementary hates, since it's the day Mr. Crocker is at his meanest. To find out why he's mean on this day, Timmy travels back to his childhood in 1972 but only makes things worse...and discovers a huge shocking revelation regarding his own fairy godparents.

Tropes:

  • All for Nothing: In the end, Timmy is unable to stop Denzel Crocker from becoming the hunchbacked, ear-necked, fairy-obsessed teacher he is today and he can't fix it ever again because Jorgen Von Strangle and his '70s counterpart ban him from interfering again.
  • Big "NO!": When Timmy leaps to push young Denzel Crocker away from the microphones before '70s Cosmo can reveal his existence to the crowd.
  • Body Horror: As a side effect of Jorgen's memory wiper, poor Denzel Crocker grows a hunchback, his teeth become rotten, his ears move down to his neck, he loses a good bulk of his hair, and he ages to the point where he basically looks like a dwarf version of his adult self.
  • Brick Joke: When present Cosmo, Wanda and Timmy are spying on young Crocker in 1972 (while disguised as hummingbirds) and Timmy notices that Crocker has neglectful parents and a Babysitter from Hell and green and pink parrots as pets, Timmy realizes that Crocker must have fairies and he says "FAIRY GODPARENTS!" in the same spastic manner as present Crocker usually does, and then tells his fairies that they should hit him if he does that again, to which Cosmo materializes an oar before Timmy tells him not right away. A little later on, when Timmy does Crocker's "FAIRY GODPARENTS!" bit again, Cosmo and Wanda slap Timmy in a "Get A Hold Of Yourself Man" fashion, to which Timmy thanks them for not using the oar from earlier.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Timmy shouts Crocker's "FAIRY GODPARENTS!" bit and spasm a few points.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Jorgen's response to Timmy's efforts: ban him from coming to March of 1972.
Timmy: Come on, we should go back to March 14th and stop this from happening!
'70s Jorgen: Ah-ah-ah! Absolutely not! Your meddling in this era is finished!
Present Jorgen: After speaking with my funky '70s counterpart, we have decided that you are forbidden from ever returning to March of 1972.
'70s Jorgen: However, you may feel free to muck around with every other month of this year as long as you don't interfere with the election of President McGovern.
    Both Jorgens: Now... BE GONE!
  • Distaff Counterpart: Young Crocker's Babysitter from Hell is a male version of Vicky, appropriately named "Vic."
  • Downer Ending: Timmy fails to prevent Crocker’s worst day to happen, therefore creating a Stable Time Loop instead. Jorgen and his '70s counterpart then prevent Timmy from interfering with the day ever again.
  • The Dreaded: March 15, the day Mr. Crocker is at his meanest. It's because it's the day he lost Cosmo and Wanda as his godparents and vowed to prove they exist.
  • Idiot Houdini: Cosmo causes Crocker to lose his fairies again, but he gets off scot-free while his godchild Timmy is punished for the time-traveling shenanigans.
  • Insignificant Anniversary: This episode has a variation which is Played for Drama. In the episode, Mr Crocker, already a Sadistic Teacher, is even meaner and nastier on March 15th, and Timmy finds out that it was because of a traumatic event that occurred on that date years before. When Timmy wishes to go back in time to the March 15th in question, he finds out that Crocker was a happy and well-adjusted boy who had Cosmo and Wanda as fairy godparents, and was on his way to the "Denzel Crocker Day" ceremony to celebrate his accomplishments and good deeds, performed with the help of Cosmo and Wanda. In the middle of the ceremony, Timmy accidentally reveals that Crocker had fairy godparents, which causes Jorgen to reassign Cosmo and Wanda, erase his and the towns peoples memories, and they then try to lynch Crocker, believing that he had done something to anger them.
  • My Future Self and Me: Jorgen travels back in time and teams up with his '70s counterpart to ban Timmy and his fairies from March 1972 due to his interference in the timeline. Afterwards, the both of them decide to do some disco dancing together.
    '70s Jorgen: Disco?
    Jorgen: With myself?
    Both: (egaerly) Outrageous!
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Cosmo is the reason why Crocker lost his fairies - twice! His '70s counterpart interrupted Crocker's speech and revealed his existence to the entire crowd. But after Timmy prevents this from happening and present Wanda turns off the power for the microphones, present Cosmo sees the switch and turns it back on asking "Hey, what's this do?" just as Timmy is explaining to Crocker that he was trying to stop the existence of his fairies from being revealed, thus revealing it to the crowd anyways.
  • Oh, Crap!: The kids' reactions when Timmy announces it's March 15.
  • Origins Episode: As the title suggests, it is here where we learn why Mr. Crocker is the way he is today.
  • Persona Non Grata: As punishment for accidentally altering history, Jorgen and his '70s counterpart ban Timmy, Cosmo and Wanda from going back to the date of March 15, 1972 ever again, even if it's because they want to change Crocker's life for the better which, in turn, would make Timmy's and everyone else's life better.
  • Pet the Dog: While Jorgen and his '70s counterpart ban Timmy and his fairies from March 1972 to stop him from interfering with the timeline again, his '70s counterpart says he will still be free to visit the other months of the year (from April to December) as long as he does not meddle with the election of President McGovern.
  • Stable Time Loop: What Timmy created at the end. Timmy tries to break it, but Jorgen and his '70s counterpart ban Timmy from interfering with the timeline again.
  • Torches and Pitchforks: The crowd of townspeople out to celebrate "Crocker Day" get their memories of all the great things he had done for them erased as part of Jorgen's memory wiper. When they wonder why they're there, they see Crocker on stage and reason that they can't be celebrating anything, so they must be an angry mob out to get him, and out come the torches and pitchforks, which they all happened to have tucked away somewhere.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Timmy's desperate bid to find out why Crocker is at his worst on March 15 leads to him, and by extension Cosmo, to become that reason. It also leads the teacher to be obsessed with fairies and further ruin his life.
  • Wham Episode: To Timmy's shock, he learns that Mr. Crocker had FAIRY GODPARENTS as a kid. Even more shocking, Cosmo and Wanda were once the teacher's FAIRY GODPARENTS.
  • What Does This Button Do?: Cosmo notices the switch to the microphones that turns them on, and indirectly causes Crocker to lose his fairies.
