Original air date: 1/28/2003 (produced in 2002)

Episode number: 26a

After his dad embarrasses himself during a Career Day presentation at school, Timmy wishes that his dad could have cooler jobs, ranging from a racecar driver and professional wrestler to an astronaut.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Berserk Button: Crusher McPerson Crusher hates pencils because she failed elementary school, as she went through all of his pencils trying to take a test. She gives Mr. Turner a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown upon seeing his wrestling persona, the Pencil Pusher.
  • Didn't Think This Through: While Timmy is able to use magic to give his dad a cooler job, it doesn't seem to occur to him (or Cosmo and Wanda, for that matter) to make any effort to ensure that his dad is actually good at said job. As a race car driver, he gets into a fiery wreck after about ten seconds, and as a professional wrestler, he's pitted against an opponent three times his size who puts him in the hospital without breaking a sweat. He does seem to be more competent at his third and final cool job - astronaut - but that results in another case, as it never occurs to Timmy that such a job might take him away from Earth for long periods of time.
  • Eye Scream: Timmy's dad pokes Cosmo in the eye with his mouse cursor while looking for a job, and one of the pencils he threw at the audience during a Career Day presentation ends up hitting someone's eye.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Mr. Turner's astronaut job seems perfect at first, until Timmy overhears he's going to a program near Uranus for 23 years.
  • Hired on the Spot: Timmy's dad is able to instantly acquire jobs as a race car driver, professional wrestler, and astronaut, despite him having absolutely no qualifications, experience, or (in the first two cases at least) actual talent. Justified as he's unknowingly acquiring the jobs through Cosmo and Wanda's magic.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Despite being a parent herself, Crusher McPerson Crusher hates parents.
  • Never My Fault: Crusher hates pencils and blames them for failing school, when a flashback shows that she broke every pencil she had during school.
  • New Job Episode: Timmy wishes up a website for his father in order to get him a cooler job than pencil pushing.
  • Noodle Incident:
Wanda: Oh no, those kids made your dad cry!
Cosmo: Yeah, usually it takes a monkey or a bowl of pudding to do that!
  • Ow, My Body Part!: Whenever Timmy's dad picks a job at the CoolJobs.wand website, he ends up hurting Cosmo in one way or another.
  • Rule of Three: Mr. Turner takes on three different jobs to make Timmy proud and keep his friends from laughing at him; a racecar driver, a professional wrestler, and an astronaut.
  • Running Gag: Timmy's dad's girly shriek ends up being a prominent gag in this episode.
  • Tempting Fate:
Mr. Turner: Hey, if you don't like the pencils, I'll take them back! I work with pencils all day and they've never hurt me.
(cue the audience members throwing pencils back at him)
Mr. Turner: Until today! Pencils, why have you betrayed me?!
  • Toilet Humour: Timmy's dad's spacesuit has a built-in toilet that beeps whenever he uses it.
  • Uranus Is Showing: When Mr. Turner gets a job as an astronaut, a Running Gag is is that whenever Uranus is brought up, it is referred to as being a planet. The Stinger for this episode is Timmy saying "It's a planet?"
